The Revolution Will Be Televised

Some interesting observations on the Iran situation...

The revolutionaries do not have guns... It can be done!

If the decision is made to hold another election they will need international observers....Wouldnt it be a wonderful twist of history if Jimmy Carter was a part of that group?

Jimmy Carter hates the Israelis, Iran would likely welcome him with or without a need for observers as he is a shill for terrorist nations. Probably one of your favorite presidents!

I think you mean Iran, Vince... But, it doesn't matter. I know what you mean.

It can be done, as long as popular opinion is on their side. They have a high-ranking cleric and a presidential candidate on the opposition side, which does lend them some clout. Iran is one of the more progressive nations, compared to some of the other Islamic-ruled countries.

I think this will ultimately end with Ahmadinejad remaining as president, but this public outcry will have (at least) a short-term impact on the country's future, whatever it is.

I think it would be super awesome if the opposition president was elected during the recount, and it ushered in a new era of relations between Iran and "The West." However, given the region's history, I'm maintaining a stance of "reserved optimism." No matter who wins, the country is still going to be a theocracy, at least in the near future.

The fact that Iran's current administration is enforcing an almost complete media blackout (and has the power to do so) leads me to believe that only armed revolution is going to cause a permanent, lasting change.

It's up in the air right now, and I'm interested in how things turn out.

It's amazing that any time a person even handedly addresses both Israeli and Muslim interests..they are accused of being anti-Israeli.

My opinion about Jimmy....He was a flawed messenger. The wrong person with the right message.

its ok if carter hates the Israelis. Israel is the real terrorist state in the middle east. they're just our terrorist group friend. just like bin laden was before he attacked us.

rev·o·lu·tion Listen to the pronunciation of revolution
Pronunciation:
    \ˌre-və-ˈlü-shən\
Function:
    noun
Etymology:
Middle English revolucioun, from Middle French revolution, from Late Latin revolution-, revolutio, from Latin revolvere to revolve
Date:
    14th century

      1. the action by a celestial body of going round in an orbit or elliptical course ; also : apparent movement of such a body round the earth
      2. the time taken by a celestial body to make a complete round in its orbit
      3. the rotation of a celestial body on its axis
    1. completion of a course (as of years) ; also : the period made by the regular succession of a measure of time or by a succession of similar events
      1. a progressive motion of a body around an axis so that any line of the body parallel to the axis returns to its initial position while remaining parallel to the axis in transit and usually at a constant distance from it
      2. motion of any figure about a center or axis <revolution of a right triangle about one of its legs generates a cone>
      3. rotation 1b
    1. a sudden, radical, or complete change
    2. a fundamental change in political organization ; especially : the overthrow or renunciation of one government or ruler and the substitution of another by the governed
    3. activity or movement designed to effect fundamental changes in the socioeconomic situation
    4. a fundamental change in the way of thinking about or visualizing something : a change of paradigm <the Copernican revolution>
    5. a changeover in use or preference especially in technology <the computer revolution> <the foreign car revolution>

synonyms see rebellion

changing the iranian president is not a fundamental change by any means because the iranian president doesnt have the final say over ANYTHING. iran's "supreme ruler" has the real power, the president is merely a figurehead.

Ummm. The revolution hasn't succeeded yet. You are a bit premature.

First, I don't think another election will be held. This will either be resolved at the end of a gun or with a bunch of clerics hanging from lamp posts. Second, in either case there is no chance in Hell Carter will be asked to participate given his support of the Shah back in the 70s. I think all sides in Iran would agree on that.
