At least 18 people have been killed in Paris after multiple explosions and shootings at at least four different locations throughout the French capital, according to reports.
Hostages have also been taken at the Bataclan concert hall, police told Agence France-Presse, where a sold-out show was underway.
Two people opened fire at the Le Carillon bar, while another shot up the Cambodge restaurant in the city’s 10th district, according to French media cited by the BBC.

The shootings happened along Rue de la Fontaine au roi, Rue de Charonne and Rue Bataclan, Le Figaro reported.
Two explosions were heard at a bar near Stade de France, where France was hosting Germany in a soccer game. President Francois Hollande was there and was taken out by security, Le Figaro reports.

The explosion was loud enough to hear inside the stadium, over the roaring of fans, according to an Associated Press reporter at the match.
At least one of the explosions was reportedly carried out by a suicide bomber.

A BBC journalist reported seeing 10 bodies of either dead or wounded lying in the street.
There's been no claim of responsibility, but the attacks come just a day after the United States announced a drone strike in Syria that likely killed Jihadi John, the Islamic State's British-accented executioner.

NYPD officials are aware of the attacks and are monitoring the situation.
The attacks were carried out not far from the headquarters of the Charlie Hebdo newspaper, where 12 people were shot dead in January in an attack carried out by radicalized brothers. And in August, a trio of Americans were able to tackle and detain a gunman before he carried out an attack on a train headed for Paris from Amsterdam.

At least 30 people have reportedly been killed in a series of attacks in central Paris on Friday.
Reports of explosions rocking a bar near the Paris stadium Stade de France were accompanied by accounts of shootings at a restaurant in the Little Cambodia section of the city’s 10th Arrondissement, a district in the center of the city.
Police confirmed that there had been a number of casualties but it was not immediately clear in which of the attacks they had been killed. Meanwhile officers were also on scene at a hostage situation near the Bataclan concert hall in central Paris.
BFM television said several people were dead in the restaurant shootings. A France 24 journalist on the scene said he saw four bodies on the ground outside.
Witnesses described scenes of fear and confusion in the neighborhoods where the attacks took place, which are popular with young people and tourists, packed on a Friday night.
Madeline Barry, who was at a different restaurant in the area where the attacks occurred, told Al Jazeera that shortly after the attack patrons filed out of the dining area into a courtyard.
"People are calling their families, trying to understand what is going on," Barry said. "There is a heavy police presence on the street."
One of the police officials said there was a separate explosion near the Stade de France north of Paris. It was unclear if the events were linked. Several media outlets reported that French President Francois Hollande was evacuated from the stadium as a precaution.
Nick Holden, dining at a restaurant in central Paris, told Al Jazeera what he saw in the first moments after the shootings.
“A lady came in crying, we assumed some sort of domestic dispute, and someone said she had seen someone shot,” Holden said. "We couldn't believe what was said until we heard the sirens and people started to run, and that’s what we did."

• French radio reporter Julien Pearce was inside the Bataclan theater when gunmen entered. Two men dressed in black started shooting what he described as AK-47s, and after wounded people fell to the floor, the two gunmen shot them again, execution-style, he said. The two men didn't wear masks and didn't say anything. The gunfire lasted 10 to 15 minutes, sending the crowd inside the small concert hall into a screaming panic, said Pearce, who escaped. He said he saw 20 to 25 bodies lying on the floor.

• One of the explosions at the Stade de France outside Paris appears to be a suicide bombing, a Western intelligence source receiving direct intelligence from the scene told CNN's Deb Feyerick. • People were inviting people off the streets into their apartments, reports Philip Crowther, Washington correspondent for France 24. They are following Hollande's direction to stay indoors.
• Traffic on several subway lines has been interrupted following the attacks, the Paris police prefecture reported.
• At this hour, there is no credible or specific threat in the United States, according to a U.S. government official.
• Hollande, in an address to the nation, said he had declared a state of emergency, meaning borders will be closed. "We have to show compassion and solidarity and we also have to show unity and keep our cool. France must be strong and great," he said.

• French radio reporter Julien Pearce was inside the Bataclan theater when gunmen entered. Two men dressed in black started shooting what he described as AK-47s, and after wounded people fell to the floor, the two gunmen shot them again, execution-style, he said. The two men didn't wear masks and didn't say anything. The gunfire lasted 10 to 15 minutes, sending the crowd inside the small concert hall into a screaming panic, said Pearce, who escaped. He said he saw 20 to 25 bodies lying on the floor.

• One of the explosions at the Stade de France outside Paris appears to be a suicide bombing, a Western intelligence source receiving direct intelligence from the scene told CNN's Deb Feyerick. • People were inviting people off the streets into their apartments, reports Philip Crowther, Washington correspondent for France 24. They are following Hollande's direction to stay indoors.
• Traffic on several subway lines has been interrupted following the attacks, the Paris police prefecture reported.
• At this hour, there is no credible or specific threat in the United States, according to a U.S. government official.
• Hollande, in an address to the nation, said he had declared a state of emergency, meaning borders will be closed. "We have to show compassion and solidarity and we also have to show unity and keep our cool. France must be strong and great," he said.

• The Paris prefecture of police is instructing residents to stay home. The prefecture said via Twitter that people should stay inside "unless there's an absolute necessity."
• French authorities have launched a terrorism investigation, Eric Pelletier, a reporter with Le Pariesien, tells CNN Paul Cruickshank. There has been no official claim of responsibility, though ISIS has applauded the attacks on Twitter, Cruickshank reports.

Two or three gunmen entered the Bataclan concert hall while opening fire on law enforcement, BFMTV reported. In early January of this year, two gunmen attacked the Paris offices of the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, killing 12 and wounding 11.
Said and Cherif Kouachi wanted to punish the magazine for the publication of cartoons that they believed mocked the Prophet Mohammed. The Kouachi brothers two days later were shot and killed in a standoff with police in Dammartin-en-Goele.
Amedy Coulibaly, an associate of Said and Cherif Kouachi, attacked a Jewish grocery store in Paris, taking more than a dozen people hostage and killing four. Coulibaly had killed a policewoman the day before, on January 8. Coulibaly was killed when police stormed the kosher market.

Al Qaeda in Yemen (AQAP) did the Charlie Hebdo attack.
Al Qaeda groups by Nusra Front, Ahrar Al-Sham, etc. coordinate attacks like the one in Paris.
In any event, a government such as the US, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and/or Turkey is ultimately responsible for training these mercs and letting them loose.

That said, I doubt Nusra or Ahrar al-sham were behind this. They've never carried out attacks outside of their immediate areas of operations.
In order of likeliness (IMO):
Islamic State
AQAP
AQ Core/Af-Pak
AQIM (only because they operate in a former French imperial territory and France led a campaign against them a few years ago). It would be completely out of character for them based on their past attacks.
