Sperm Donors

I have a question for the male members of the forum.

Would you ever consider donating sperm?

Why or why not?

I would. I had a girl once ask me, "How would you feel about having a bunch of your kids running around?"

The answer is, I wouldn't feel anything either way. I wouldn't know when my sperm is used, and I'd never meet or have to be responsible for the kid.

I considered it in college for the money. Butwould never do it now. The legal system gets screwier each year. In a few years donors will probably be liable for child support.

Do you need some?

No. I would have a hard time knowing there was a kid of mine out there that I didn't know. If the kid ever did make contact with me, it would be unfair to his or her true parents.

Definitely. But theres something to be said for getting some money for doing a deed that most guys gladly do for free.

I would be able to get over the "never meeting my kid" thing by remembering that I'm helping someone accomplish something they can't do on their own.

In my case, the point was made moot after a visit to the doctor.

Tay sachs is an instant disqualifier for donors. Either that or the doctor bit off his nuts.

Generally speaking, people with 21 chromosomes are not ideal donors that sperm banks seek out.

OK, lets mix up the scenario.

Would you donate sperm to a friend or acquaintance who wanted you to sign a form to terminate parental rights? If so, knowing that you didn't have to pay for anything, would you be a willing participant in the child's life?

Yeah, I'm shopping for a baby daddy. I choose you and MrMephisto to be a sperm cocktail and let your little fellers duke it out! Then we can all go on Jerry Springer to find out who my baby daddy is! Woo hoo!

OK, for those of you who said no to donating sperm to a friend, how many of you use condoms EVERY TIME? If you don't, it's the same as donating. Never trust a partner to cover contraception, else you will be singing the papa blues AND paying child support.

My gay stalker troll, who apparently goes by the name of Jeff Fagsworthy or SuperGay, only donates sperm to male orafices. He prefers it mixed with spit and feces.

I would donate sperm and not give the slightest shit about not ever meeting or knowing about the kid(s).
I never cared about carrying on the Numbers lineage and I'm pretty sure me and the world would be just fine without knowing who my sperm ended up forming or whether my branch of the family tree stopped growing.

But it would be just my luck that the kid become a mega millionaire and I end up on Skid row somewhere.

I looked into donating sperm, but all the clinics I looked at only wanted men that were at least 6'0 feet tall. Plus, a lot of clinics want a picture of the male donor, so the female can choose the best looking father.

This doesn't logically follow. Even supposing I never use a condom, that is not the equivalent to donating sperm. For one, with donating sperm, you don't know who you are donating to. For two, with donating sperm, the intent is to produce children - the intent of having sex without a condom may or may not be to produce a child. For three, with donating sperm, there is no one to talk to.

cats and dogs are far more behaved than children of any age. however, there are some breeds of cats and dogs that are just too stupid to tame but the same is true for children. case and point: "JayJay" http://nfgworld.com/mb/post/1794 (note, an rss feed is available for people who find it equally hilarious)

no, there is something fundamentally wrong with that kid. he has no grasp of consequence and absolutely everything is like life and death to him. i mean, who would actual scream "I'm Soooooory! You fucking bitch, I'm sorry!" and expect a positive result?! he's even in a special school for kids with serious issues.

The donors sign a release giving permission to release their identity when the child turns 18. It's optional. No one could get child support from a donor.

Being vague is almost as fun as that other thing.

Great site! I was the Francis of a couple of situations when I was a wee sped -- very interesting to hear the other side's perspective.

See my original post. I don't think I'd want to take that chance:

I considered it in college for the money. Butwould never do it now. The legal system gets screwier each year. In a few years donors will probably be liable for child support.

I find it odd that a thread about sperm donors that was started a little over 24 hours ago by a resident female forum member would generate over 320 views.

I mean, WTF? LOL.

It's probably from a bunch of horny guys hoping that she was actually seeking sperm donation the old fashioned way - a Cragislist casual encounter post, if you will.

You don't grow up saying those words when you're born. Your environment accustomizes you to saying that as a matter of course.

I'm pretty sure there is. IIRC, you can not only sign away rights, you also can insist that your identity remain anonymous.

There was an article in Time a few years ago which talked about donor clinics, and how women basically got to choose from a menu of options (age, race, education background, height, eye color). Obviously, the merging of the egg and any one sperm will yield a different result, but it was clear that a lot of women were channeling their preferences towards certain characteristics (successful men (usually post gradaute degrees), tall, etc.).

Just because you can get $50.00 for whacking off into a jar, there is no guarantee your seed will ever be put to use.

The women who contact sperm donors should be screened as well as the donors are. So we dont have any more Octomoms.
