unlocked cell phones

does anyone know if i get the unlock code for my phone, will it get better signal. the building i work in is wired for cingular and verizon phones are left to suffer. yea, i tried google, but could not get a straight answer. any help would be appreciated. and no i dont want to switch to cingular.

All an unlock code will do is allow you to (for example): use an att sim card phone with another sim type carrier like tmobile. The phone has to be compatible with the new carrier's network and of the same technology.
