Pilots are usually on pretty strict work and sleep rules. Doctors, especially ER interns, thats a different story...

With doctors, it is the internists who don't get the sleep. Frankly, I think it is more like hazing than a necessity.
As for pilots, the problem is you get the situation you had with the gal on the flight that crashed in Buffalo. She would sleep in the airport because the airline didn't pay her enough to get a hotel room. That's not exactly restful sleep.
Another group that doesn't get sleep but should is truckers. Just think of every time you are on the Interstate going 70 mph next to a semi. Odds are that guy has had three or four hours of sleep every night he has been on his run.

Pilots, doctors, and truckers. That's THREE people I want rested at work, but still two I need to see being well compensated as well. High pay and good work conditions will encourage competition for these jobs.
