Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
I just started an internship on Monday and was wondering what the norm was for all of you professionals out there. It's cheaper to bring lunch, but sometimes I just have to fucking get out of the building. Besides, lunch deals are pretty good in the area.
Send me your resume so I can make sure our company blacklists your stupid ass for such a dumbass question. Seriously, it's fucking stupid. Now shut your pie hole and go sit in a corner for an hour. Whatever they're paying you for being an intern, it's WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY too much dumbfuck.

Bring your lunch, the cafeterias and delis that are in office buildings rape you for shit food. Seriously, I pay $10-$15 a day for my company's cafeteria and it takes like prison food.

I usually bring my lunch and eat/work at the same time. For my lunch break I'll generally work out (cycling, swimming or tennis). It's a great way to break the day into two halves and a good use of time.
If you don't have/want the work-out option. Do a cost/benefit analysis - bringing your lunch saves 3-10$ each time x 5 = 15-50$ p/week x 4 x 12 = $720-$2,400 saved every year. You can always go outside of the building for your hour and eat so no one will burden you with work.
The downside to bringing lunch - you have to make it (could be a positive too as you get to decide how healthy/what you want), it can be lonely unless you arrange to eat with co-workers, and if you can't leave your office or cube you're stuck doing work as people will not recognise your lunch time.
If you want to save money or are watching what you eat, bring your lunch. As britdrnva illustrated, you'll save hundreds of dollars that could be spent elsewhere or saved.
Personally, I bring my lunch. Mainly because I watch what I eat, but every now and then I just need to get the fuck out of the office or meet up with some friends. I eat out maybe 2 - 3 times a month.
Good luck trying to find good lunch deals, cuz almost everything is going to be overpriced and will cut into your budget.
That being said, I never bring my own lunch. Too much of a pain to make it and I hate carrying stuff with me on metro. Plus, the times I have packed a lunch, by the time noon rolls around, I end up not in the mood for whatever I brought with me. There are enough deli's within walking distance, so it's just convenient to go out and grab a sandwich or soup. It's sort of stupid to spend the money for the overpriced deli food you find around Arlington, but it is convenient, and nice to get out for a walk during the day.
You could probably save $ eating fast food, but that just makes you feel malnourished and like shit for the rest of the day.
A rarely eat lunch. I try to grab a bagel or something late in the morning to cover both meals and hold me over until dinner. If I need a break I just walk outside for a little while.
I usually eat out but switch up once in a while and bring something from home. But I agree that it is good to get out of the office and when I bring lunch I typically don't get out.

In any event, I eat out about three times a week. There is a deli in the building next door thats pretty average, but for $6.50 (or thereabouts), I'm done.
You can get soup at many places for about $4.00 (potbelly, etc). Obviously if you bring in your own, its cheaper, but where I work, bringing in soup is reserved for secretaries and support staff.
We will have in house meals once or twice a week - client meetings, department meetings, lunch during brief preparation, etc.
I think there was streak were I was sick of going out to the same 6-7 restaurants, the deli was undergoing renevation, etc. I brought in those Asian meals in a box (noodles) that you get from Trader Joe's for $2.79. They;re pretty good.

Melissa, you have such a dirty mind. I like that in a person.
I've been illustrating how dirty my mind is since I joined, and nobody's ever pointed it out. This does lend credibility to my argument that there is no more powerful force on the internet (and possibly the world) than boobs.

nah what is more interesting is that just because someone registers with a girl's name you assume it's really a girl. melissa is probably ej getting his rocks off with guys hitting on him
haha you fell for the 'ole "i'm a girl on the forum" trick
I usually bring my lunch in a large brown plain paper bag. Maybe duck out of the office later for a dessert.... also in a plain brown paper bag. or flask.
I usually go out for lunch and a Starbucks, as long as the total is under $15 I've done the math and it works out with my budget. Eating at my desk means I get more work.
In Scandanavia most people now bring their lunches to work to get away from the fatty foods restaurants serve. A popular item for lunch is large whole grain crackers with Swiss cheese and mayo on it; This lunch is filling, low in carbs, easy to make, and is low in carbs. Add a piece of fruit and you are golden.

Oh, man, how'd ya figure me out?
Nope, totally XX chromosome here, just rather male brained and have an appreciation for 7th grade humor.
Fart joke anyone?

I really like those big crackers. Forget what they're called, but they're in the international section at the grocery store. They're delicious with peanut butter, but then again, what ISN'T delicious with peanut butter?

You boys can rest easy ... I'm quite certain Melissa is all girl.
I eat out with co-workers everyday unless I'm completely slammed, usually rotating cuisines between Sushi, Chinese, Thai, Indian, Italian, and French. I typically spend about $15 with tip on the low end to as much as $30 for the good stuff. That's the great thing about DC/NoVA in that you don't have to settle for fucking Applebee's or TGIF every time.
I used to bring my lunch when I was right out of college, but that lasted for about a year. Food from home is boring when you have all these great restaurants nearby. Plus, it's great to get some fresh air and socialize. It shortens up the day considerably.
One thing that most people find strange is that I do not eat breakfast and for dinner, I'll just have a small snack with a couple of glasses of wine, scotch or beer, depending on the mood. I'm just not that hungry in the morning or the evening. Some co-workers go ballistic like, "OMG, WTF, dude, etc." but that's probably why they're a little thick and I'm not. Same reaction goes when they found out I don't work-out but once a week.

Or maybe you haven't impressed the peanut gallery enough to warrant recognition.
And as to anyone's real gender, without meeting them, you really have no idea.

I'd like to "impress" my "peanut gallery" on some lucky lady tonight. I'll "find out" her "real gender" through a very informative "meeting."

In addition to my prior admission re: blondes or brunettes, I'll state for the record that I'm not a fan of the tramp stamp, although I'm fully cognizant of the tendencies of those who get one............. nom.

I"m not a big fan of tattooed girls at all; One is too many!
I'll take one. But if i see an enormous trampstamp right on the "landing area" near the small of her back, I then wonder how many others have made an attempt on the landing area. Too many tummy puddles. No thanks....
I'm not saying I wouldn't be attracted to a girl simply based on the fact she has tattoos. I just think that a beautiful woman is a wonderful thing in and of itself and does not need any extra personal adornment. That being said, I have seen plenty of beautiful women w/ a coy fish or lilly tattooed on them and that's fine with me.

I think im gonna Lose my lunch with that visual image.
Since I just came back from Vacation and have a ton of work to catch up on Im eating out from the wheel of death. yeah prolly a microwave Burrito. So, come to think of it might not get much work done after all for the next..... two hours or so. MUY BUENO! El MicroWAVO!
Tattoos can look hot on women, they just have to do it right. Nothing cheap looking or on a fatty area. I can't believe how many times I have been to a bar and some 200 lb girl is showing her tattoos that are on her lovehandles.
The worst is the ones that get tattoos on their saggy breasts.

Pink tacos are always great for lunch, but I prefer them for dinner time.
