Short and to the point. Another nail in the dollar's coffin. The evidence continues to mount.

June 10 (Bloomberg) -- Russia’s central bank may switch some of its reserves from U.S. Treasuries to International Monetary Fund bonds, the bank’s first deputy chairman, Alexei Ulyukayev, said in Moscow today. His comments were confirmed by a bank official who declined to be named, citing bank policy.

Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin said last month that Russia planned to buy $10 billion of IMF bonds using money from its foreign reserves.

Is this the same Russia whose foreign reserves have gone down 30% over the past 12 months due to the price of oil?

Update 1

By Alex Nicholson and Dakin Campbell

June 10 (Bloomberg) -- Russia may switch some of its reserves from U.S. Treasuries to International Monetary Fund bonds, the central bank said today. The comment drove Treasuries and the dollar lower.

Alexei Ulyukayev, first deputy chairman of Russia’s central bank, said some reserves may be moved from Treasuries into IMF debt, reiterating comments made last month by Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin. Ulyukayev’s remarks were confirmed by a Bank Rossii official who declined to be named, citing bank policy.

Treasuries fell, pushing 10-year yields toward the highest level in seven months, in response to Ulyukayev’s statement. The dollar fell against the euro on speculation that Russia will reduce its holdings of U.S. debt.

About 30 percent of Russia’s international reserves, which stood at $401.1 billion on May 29, are currently held in Treasuries, Ulyukayev said. Kudrin said on May 26 that Russia planned to buy $10 billion of IMF bonds using money from its foreign reserves.

The IMF securities would give countries a different way to contribute to the fund and are unlike traditional bonds because they pay an interest rate pegged to the IMF’s basket of currencies, known as Special Drawing Rights.

China is expected to buy as much as $50 billion of the bonds, IMF Managing Director Dominique Strauss-Kahn said yesterday.

The IMF, which has rescued economies from Pakistan to Iceland in the past year, has never issued bonds before and is seeking more cash to finance loans and aid to member countries during the worst economic slump in the fund’s 64-year history.

I beg to differ. You seem to care as evidenced by your need to pounce on all my posts with meaningless pictures. I wouldn’t expect you to have the wherewithal to engage in any serious exchange in such topics which are completely over your head… but if you have nothing to contribute please refrain from posting anything in the future. Thank you.

BTW- The Russians, Chinese, Indians, Brazilians, and our Govt leaders care… just to name a few.

But on this site, your cut-and-paste has little effect on the masses.

Seriously. We know how to hit the news sites when we're feeling like we're news-deficient. No need to dump the entire fucking internet on us.

Next time, just post www.cnn.com or www.fox.com or www.bloomberg.com.

See, that was easy.

Govt is the problem: I wonder if your caring about this issue only began on January 20. You may claim to be a libertarian, but I heard NOTHING from so-called libertarians about civil rights or economic mess until Obama was elected.

No, it goes back much longer than that. This is not about Obama.

I'm sorry about that. I believe we will be hearing more and more going forward.

From Update 6

President Dmitry Medvedev questioned the U.S. dollar’s future as a global reserve currency last week and said that using a mix of regional currencies would make the world economy more stable. He renewed his call for consideration of a supranational currency to challenge the dollar.

From Update 7

I proport to be some sort of an economic expert, however I believe people really know that I sit around on my fat ass for most of the day until the mail comes. My real life experiences and interpersonal relationships never really materialized, so this is my way of showing the world that I matter.

Stocks fall after weak auction of 10-year notes
Stocks fall as weak 10-year note auction raises worries about inflation, interest rates
Madlen Read, AP Business Writer
On Wednesday June 10, 2009, 1:19 pm EDT
Buzz up! Print NEW YORK (AP) -- A weak auction of Treasury notes is putting the pressure on both stocks and bonds.

The Dow Jones industrial average fell about 65 points Wednesday after the government sold $19 billion in 10-year Treasury notes. The government had to lure buyers with a higher yield than the market anticipated.

The 10-year note's yield, which is closely tied to interest rates on mortgages and other consumer loans, jumped to 3.99 percent, a new high for the year.

Investors are concerned the government's debt load will become untenable, leading to higher inflation and soaring interest rates. Rising rates could hamper the economy's recovery.

By early afternoon, the Dow fell 64.17, or 0.7 percent, to 8,698.89. The Standard & Poor's 500 index fell 8.42, or 0.9 percent, at 934.01. The Nasdaq composite index fell 20.86, or 1.1 percent, to 1,839.27.

The major stock indexes had been modestly lower ahead of the auction after oil touched a new high for 2009 above $71 a barrel.

Higher commodity prices have been boosting energy and materials stocks, and raising hopes that economic activity is improving. But they have also been raising worries about inflation, which could potentially crimp consumer demand.

Trading was also cautious ahead of the Federal Reserve's report on regional economies around the country. The data is scheduled for release at 2 p.m. Eastern time.

The Dow has been waffling around 8,700 this month, just below where it started the year, after its massive three-month-long rebound from 12-year lows reached in early March.

It's a good sign the market has been largely holding up after its rally, said Ryan Detrick, senior technical strategist at Schaeffer's Investment Research. But "we're going to need to have more positive news on the economic front to make another push higher."

Shouldn't Medvedev be more concerned about his country's projected 10% drop in GDP?

Weren't you and/or your cronies complaining about the Stock Market as another sign of our economic woes some months ago? How's that indicator working out for you? Even Krugman, who is no friend to this administration says we're coming out of the recession towards the end of the summer?

Mexico. For cheapest airfare, try a one-way ticket from cheaptickets.com. Let me know if you need any help setting this up.

I guess your "Questions to the Devil" thread got buried somewhere in the mists of post-election happiness of the usual troll-bodies here. So I post this here instead since it is appropriate:

He would be elected President of the United States of America.

I dislike people in general more than I dislike Vince.

Well according to the AP from the BRIC summit - "While this has raised fears that the greenback could be further weakened, analysts say BRIC nations can offer no viable alternative to the dollar."

As much as Brazil/Russia/India/China would like to diversify out or sell-off their dollar holdings as yet there is no feasible alternative.
