Connection problems this weekend?
Posted by: Tech stupid ()
Date: September 14, 2015 10:17AM

Anybody else have trouble connecting to FFU over the weekend? It shut down for me Friday night. Now I can get on with my iPad but not my desktop system. I see that there were posts over the weekend. Not many, but several.

So what is different about my iPad? My desktop has more features and things on it.

Thank God. I thought Cary shut down FFU.

You're probably using a different internet provider for your iPad than your desktop. Send Cary an E-mail telling him you're still having problems connecting. cary@fairfaxunderground.com

Same Internet provider. I could not get on using my cell phone data plan, now I can. The desktop computer is still a problem. I live with an IT PHD and they say it is on the FFU end of the things. The iPad is running on the home wireless.

This is a home desktop system, BTW. And I am using the iPad at home.

Clear the fucking cache on your desktop browser. If the site moved to a new data center it's likely using a new ip as well. Your desktop is trying to access the site using a cached address, ie; the old address.

If not that, your ramishan is probably hosed on your desktop and will need to be replaced.

Ping www.fairfaxunderground.com and see what happens. It should respond.

Also run a Trace Route and see what happens.

There were times this weekend when FFU could not respond.

But at the end of the day, something screwed on the desktop.

No disrespect, just because the PhD has a PhD does not mean the guys knows his way around computers, malware, redirects and so forth.

No, actually, this is probably not the situation. The problem seems to be with FFU, not with the PHD or the computer. This is a familiar scenario.

Are you able to access any other Web sites on your desktop computer?

What happens when you go to http://74.115.212.214/forum in the browser on your desktop computer?

(74.115.212.214 is the IP address of Fairfax Underground.)

I do get the distinct feeling that you're trolling, however. My trolldar is starting to tingle.

iPad at home on Wifi works.

Desktop at home on the same network does not work.

PhD in the house.

The problem is very obvious, it is with the last 2 items!

A really messed up version of FFU shows up. The laptop is also not working, just the iPad and phone with data plan. The problem is with FFU.

Not a troll.

Clearly it does not.
Is this the same IT guy that wiped Hillary's email servers HD with a cloth?

Fucking libturdz. How are they smart enough to breed? At least they murder their children.

The FFU that shows up isn't anything like what was posted above. They are not finished with the transition. They need to tweak some stuff.

Good night.

The problem is your time frame doesn't sync up with the actual time frame of Cary's move of Fairfax Underground, which was on Saturday, not Friday.

I predict he didn't do a thing to change Fairfax Underground on Friday.

You should contact cary@fairfaxunderground.com. Send him a screen shot of how the site is rendering and include all the other information you mentioned here (site rendering messed up on laptop and desktop, works fine on iPad).

He'll probably ignore you, but you might get lucky.

If you cannot access FFU and cannot figure it out, time to move onto something more productive!

LOL!!!! You were online on this site Friday night!!!! Real men have dates on Friday night.

Also, you were trying to access the site over the weekend. Guess weekend life for you also sucks!

I refer to ffu for some very valid reasons that I can't elaborate on. It is a very essential serviceĀ°c that I need to be able to rely on. In spite of the bizarre stuff.

My verizon router will let me enter an address in its DNS server under advanced settings. You could always enter ffu's IP address locally for the time being: 74.115.212.214 I am going to assume that Cox et al wireless routers all basically have the same capabilities. You could also put it in the Windows hosts file but you would need to google that since I don't do Windows for free.

Who is your low rate Internet provider?

As mentioned above, Verizon FIOS no problems.

Might your computer be infested and have a proxy or redirect due to all the sketchy Porn links and suggest Flash/Media players you have downloaded.

Maybe spending too much time on Ashley Madison and Back Pags.

The problem was DNS glue records with Network Solutions. I host Fairfax Underground's DNS on my own servers, but rely on Network Solutions to provide the "glue" binding my name servers to IP addresses.

The glue records with NetSol were updated, but the update didn't stick. Recursive resolvers that honored the name server's DNS name worked, while resolvers that honored the glue record did not.

The problem with Network Solution STILL isn't fixed. I had to register and glue brand new name servers to clear everything up (NS3.CARYWIEDEMANN.COM and N2.INCGODWETRUST.COM).
