should i start a thread about "twoers" or "three-ers"? Or did you mean "woners" as in "winners" and not the number one? I know it is pronounced with a 'w' in the beginning but the number 1 isn't spelled with a w anywhere in it

A band with serious ties to Fairfax County! Full screen and crank it!

Fewer bands did more with their 15-minutes of fame than Starland Vocal Band. They parlayed one song into a TV series hosted by David Letterman. They sang this stupid song on every episode because it was the only thing they were known for (besides "Take Me Home, Country Road," which the group leader wrote). The whole thing was kind of like a redneck ABBA.

I still remember a "Spade in America" skit from the early 90s when David Spade was outraged that he went to see "Big Country" in concert and that they didn't play, "In a Big Country." Yeah, that would be like M not singing "Pop Music" or Bow Wow Wow not singing "I Want Candy."

Both Dexy's Midnight Runners and Big Country had scads of hits in the UK. So do we want to call them true One-Hit Wonders?

Yes, UK and the rest of Europe have very different tastes in music than America.

Just witness David Hasselhoff and his huge success in Germany:

Anybody remember this from Eddie Murphy? At least its better than Bruce Willis and William Shatner's attempt at a music career.

I could try to make a case for "City of New Orleans" being a hit, but I guess you could come up with two or three "hits" for most of these folks.

For an extra point, what was the connection between this song and Paul McCartney?

Driver's Seat - I was going to post that! That song is great, it's on my ipod. I remember it from Boogie Nights when William H. Macy's character killed his cheating wife - which started everybody's decline in the movie.

thought about that but I believe most people associate the City of New Orleans with Willie Nelson, not Guthrie or Goodman.

Squeeze had only had one "hit" (Tempted topped at # 45 on the US Billboard charts). As a side note, I saw Sting sing it with Chris and Glenn, and he said Tempted "was the greatest song ever written," and he wished he had written it.

I'm really posting this for the 2nd video because it may be the weirdest thing I've ever seen (crazy ass German metal). It's so weird it should be a hit. But to legitimize the one hit wonder theme of this thread, I present A Flock of Seagulls.

What about Hourglass and the dozens that charted in the UK. Google - it helps get facts right.

"US Billboard charts," Dumbass...Do you have a reading comprehension problem or do you not understand the concepts of caveat or "preface of a statement?" I am very aware of the success Squeeze had in the UK and Australia, but the bottom line remains they only had one "hit" on this side of the pond. This fact is why their greatest hits album was titled "Singles 45 and under," a reference to #45 and under on the US charts.

Are you a product of the Fairfax County Public Schools?

Interesting Squeeze fact; Glenn Tilbrook owns two Winnebago's he uses for touring solo. One van is in the UK, and one is in the US. The one in the US is stored at a friend's place in New Jersey.

The Billboard Hot 100 is the United States music industry standard singles popularity chart issued weekly by Billboard magazine.

"Hourglass" was the first single released from Squeeze's seventh album, Babylon and On. Aided by a music video that received substantial airplay on MTV, "Hourglass" became the highest-charting hit the band ever had in the United States, peaking at #15 on the Billboard Hot 100,

Care to expand on your comprehension problem?

Seriously, are you going to admit you are FLAT OUT FUCKING wrong, or are you hoping this thread moves down the list?

It is called Google, asshole, learn how to use it......

PS - Not to mention 853-5937 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/853-5937 actually went to #32 on the US charts.

I anxiously await your admission of retardation.
