Soggy Bread?? WTF?
Posted by: Blech ()
Date: May 24, 2009 12:21PM

So I just moved here to VA from western PA.

Is it just me, or does bread go soggy pretty quickly down here? Is it the humidity? Is it the altitude? What the hell is up with this and how can I prevent/slow it?

GO Pens.

Go to The Container Store in Tysons Corner and spend as much money as you can on a fancy air-tight container. Problem solved.

Soggy, WTF?
Do you store your bread in the dish washer?

Do you live in a swamp?

Maybe you meant dried out, like normal bread.

Fuck.

I have had the same experience.

My bread goes soggy like in two days. I just moved over here from the boon-docks of West Virginia.

I mean - what the f* is going on?

I am being honest here, jack-offs.

Please write back to me.

In all fairness, it's not just Yinzers who say "red up". People on the other side of PA say that too. Same thing with the word "warsh", the real townies in Philly also say that.

When I opened that site and saw "We're not too nebby," I laughed out loud. I haven't heard that expression in twelve years.

I also pronounce the word "measure" as "mayzure."

On occasion, it does. I lost most of it because I got sick of explaining what I was saying. I had the following conversation no less than 1,247 times:

"What are you doing?"

"I'm about to go redd up my dorm."

"You're going to do what?"

"Redd it up."

"What the fuck is that?"

"Clean it, you stupid asshole!"

No, yes, and no.

Funny story about "pop," though. I worked with a guy from Maine who said one night, "I'm going to get a pop." The rest of the shop laughed at his bumpkin dialect, and he said, "listen assholes, when you pull the tab on a can, it goes 'pop.' It doesn't go 'sssssssssssodaaaaaaa.'"

On the rare occasion that it slips out now, I feel justified using it. But again, it's mostly slipped out of my vocabulary because dumb Virginians and those that no habla bueno english didn't understand what I was saying half the time.

Before I knew the whole Burgh dialect, I had a co-worker (a real yinzer) who asked me if he "could wear tennis shoes" around the office. I asked him if he played tennis, and he was like "no, I don't play tennis". I didn't know what the fuck he was talking about, and he was like "ya know, tennis shoes, like Nike's". I seriously thought there was something wrong with him.

Hmmm... maybe it's the northerner in me, but I say tennis shoes, too. Could be that my family's from Michigan where they also say "pop."

Good story! The guy has a point!

Well, they're certainly not sneakers. That style of footwear is much better suited for tennis, not sneaking.

I think I would have too much man-pride to call them "athletic shoes" in polite company.

Also, I'm surprised that nobody's brought up "chipped ham" yet. Apparently, this is also a Western PA thing.

Haha. My one friend actually calls it "chip-chop ham". I'm not sure what the equivalent term is outside of W PA, "ham salad" or "deviled ham", maybe?

One of the funnier local foods up there.... there is a bar up on Mt. Washington that serves fried baloney sandwiches. It's sorta all chopped up like steak sandwich meat, and smothered with cheese. It's actually pretty good.

Yuk, never heard of that. I'm from the far eastern side of the state, and we didn't have stuff like that (although there is alot of weird shit there, too). I mostly just know western PA because I have alot of friends from there and visit the Burgh occassionally.

The idea of frying something in ketchup sorta grosses me out.
