It would be more useful to know the percent who own handguns.

Rifles have legitimate uses, like hunting.

Handguns are just for killing.

Handguns have legitimate uses, such as self delfense, against the percentage of the population representing violent criminals.

I know it's too much to ask libs to actually understand the law
but I'll post it anyway. In McDonald vs. Chicago the SCOTUS ruled
handgun bans are unconstitutional. Get used to it.

We need to amend the Constitution with a rewritten 2nd amendment.

Some people need killin.

But you're right. Handguns are much more the problem.

The problem for Libtards is that if you overlay a map of firearms homicides, then 90% will be in urban areas with relatively low legal gun ownership.

The only way that you get to any correlation with legal gun ownership and gun deaths is by counting suicides. Even then it's a weak association. High in numbers only given that suicides are somewhat high as a cause of non-disease death and guns are the method of choice for the largest group within (older males) and they are effective so success is higher. Relative to the numbers of guns and owners, the risk of death by suicide using a firearm is very low. That is, lots of the people who off successfully themselves use guns. The relative number of people who own guns and successfully off themselves is tiny.

This. I'm curious as to where most illegal guns are coming from. Stolen from legal gun owners? Smuggled in from Mexico?

Gun ownership is tightly controlled in Mexico, which is why it is so safe (snicker).

Crime guns usually come from straw purchasers. There are laws on the books that prohibit this, but they are not enforced.

"ATF agent Jay Wachtel says one of the most common ways criminals get guns is through straw purchase sales. A straw purchase occurs when someone who may not legally acquire a firearm, or who wants to do so anonymously, has a companion buy it on their behalf."

"The next biggest source of illegal gun transactions where criminals get guns are sales made by legally licensed but corrupt at-home and commercial gun dealers."

"Another large source of guns used in crimes are unlicensed street dealers who either get their guns through illegal transactions with licensed dealers, straw purchases, or from gun thefts. These illegal dealers turn around and sell these illegally on the street. An additional way criminals gain access to guns is family and friends, either through sales, theft or as gifts."

"Stolen guns account for only about 10% to 15% of guns used in crimes," says ATF agent Jay Wachtel. Because when they want guns they want them immediately the wait is usually too long for a weapon to be stolen and find its way to a criminal."

Just go pull up a map of fireams homicides. If it wasn't obvious to you before, then it will be after. The vast majority will be centered in large urban locations. Chicago, Baltimore, New Orleans, St. Louis, etc.

Put what in perspective? What are you expecting to see? I see a cluster of southern states with high gun ownership (Arkansas, Lousiana, Tennessee, Alabama) AND high murder rates. I then see a place like NY (thinking NYC) with low gun ownership and low murder rates. In fact, it has BETTER murder rates than even Virginia (which has higher gun ownership then NY).

So it looks like the general crime score map does some what reflect the high gun ownership low crime rate theory. In some respects (to a lesser degree) it is true for the murder ratio as well, the exception largely being Southern States ... a cultural thing?

What does this prove again? Michigan and Alabama are the only states on your crime list and murder list to be in the top 10. The other 4 are further down. OH/NJ are middle pack.

Also, if someone wants to murder someone there is little stopping them .. They are already in an element of extreme desperation, whereas other crimes like robbery, etc. Those types are maybe less likely to risk their lives or risk facing a gun owner over stealing and such.

The analysis

It’s true that around 13 per cent of Americans are black, according to the latest estimates from the US Census Bureau.

And yes, according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, black offenders committed 52 per cent of homicides recorded in the data between 1980 and 2008. Only 45 per cent of the offenders were white. Homicide is a broader category than “murder” but let’s not split hairs.

FactCheck: do black Americans commit more crime?

Blacks were disproportionately likely to commit homicide and to be the victims. In 2008 the offending rate for blacks was seven times higher than for whites and the victimisation rate was six times higher.

As we found yesterday, 93 per cent of black victims were killed by blacks and 84 per cent of white victims were killed by whites.

The statistic I'd like to see is the percentage of crimes committed by the poor and uneducated. Then divide those into race and see. My guess is that your education and economic status drives your behavior. Which is to say it evens out between blacks and whites when it comes to crime when you're poor and uneducated.

Wow, you cant read a map and you are color blind. We're talking 16-30% in those areas. We can dig down further if you like and see what percentage of each race commits the gun related crime in those regions. But, do you really want to see the results?

Yes the Crime map, but not the Murder by State map, by comparison.
So blacks are more likely to commit murder in states not matter what kind of gun control there is and no matter what percentage of a state are gun owners. Apparently in AL, namely Birmingham, they contribute highly towards other crimes.

Remember that the Crime Map with the States in Red is actually reflecting the CITIES with the Highest Overall Crime rate in the US. Urban areas.

So the theory that, States with higher gun ownership have less Murders generally holds true. However, in states where it does not match the theory or matches to a lesser degree, the numbers must be somewhat effected by the racial statistics considering blacks commit murder at 6X the rate of whites (though blacks comprise only 13% of the US population) irregardless of how much gun control is present or what percentage of gun owners reside in those states.

Generally,
income inequality is
positively correlated with
violent crime rates within
the United States

Blacks. They commit 52% of all homicides.

blah. This doc only splits incarceration by race and not violent crimes. I'm not interested in the petty stuff...

Whites commit more crimes so whites will be more represented by the "crimes map" above.

Reading the chart above for murders, (which may or may not include other homocides like manslaughter, etc.) and not including those who have yet to be caught for murders in missing persons cases, etc.

Blacks murdered 2698 people in 2013
Whites murdered 2755 people in 2013

Though if your looking for an edge on race, percent of the population is perspective.

As far as other crimes ... cannot find any composite info., probably too many to collate in each category, nationwide.

But let's check incarceration rates:
The United States is the world's leader in incarceration with 2.2 million people currently in the nation's prisons or jails -- a 500% increase over the past thirty years. These trends have resulted in prison overcrowding and state governments being overwhelmed by the burden of funding a rapidly expanding penal system, despite increasing evidence that large-scale incarceration is not the most effective means of achieving public safety.

So 2.2 million people and here are the breakdowns per race (you do the math):

Popluation percentages in the US:

White alone, percent, 2013 (a) 77.7%

Black or African American alone, percent definition and source info Black or African American alone, percent, 2013 (a) 13.2%

Thanks. Based on the numbers, it's a bit baffling why blacks get the majority of the hate here. That said, I'm not completely blind to the fact that they don't readily integrate into the mainstream (white) culture (eg language, names, clothes, etc.) as say the asians.

I suspect we tend to reject those that don't necessarily behave/think like we do...

Wait This table by the same FBI, shows blacks committed almost 1000 more murders in 2013, same year as the above chart, but broken down differently.

It raw data, statistics ... the why's of what happens are a very complex thing to analize ... some here are not here to "hate" ... besides you were asking for the info., right?

There is no offender data, at least on the FBI site about rape ... the offenders idenitities are not described.

Telling.

Aside from robbery & gambling (murders are a statistical tie AFAICT) whites account for more crime (by a WIDE margin) yet blacks are hated on more.

I definitely concede that they [blacks] are committing more crimes in relation to their population but whites, as a whole, are committing 2.5x more crimes then blacks!

Is the liberal media over reporting black crimes?

Not sure what to say. Crime analysis is very complex and the media sometimes can be so over the top with their reporting, that it isn't news anymore, but hyping about the news ...

For example, I would like to know what kind of pre meditation went into those murders, in what environment, city, burbs, rural, etc., and murderd for what reasons, if that's even possible.

Remember this: There are 3 types of lies.
1. Lies
2. Damned Lies
3. Statistics

Flip the coin. How many more whites are law abiding compared to blacks?

According to that chart, blacks were charged with 2,640,067 crimes in 2012. There are 38,929,319 blacks in America. That means there were 36,289,252 blacks who were not charged with a crime that year.

Whites were charged with 6,502,919 crimes. There are 196,817,552 whites in America. That means there are 190,314,633 whites who were not charged with a crime that year.

There are 154,025,381 more whites than blacks who are law abiding.

I suppose my point is that shouldn't we be seeing more white crimes on media (locally and nationally) considering there are more of them happening? I concede the numbers are disproportionate by race/population but shear number of occurrences should be reflected by reporting.

Do you watch a great deal of local news outside of this area? Do you have numbers to support your assertion that white crimes are not reported?

I just went over to the front page of WTOP. Here is what I found.

White:

Unknown:
