Ex-CNN anchor Lynne Russell and her marksman husband fought off a robber during a deadly motel shootout in New Mexico, according police and a friend.
Russell’s spouse, former Green Beret and investigative reporter Chuck De Caro, was hit three times during the gun battle but managed to kill the intruder. He reportedly underwent surgery on Wednesday and was expected to survive.
“Chuck is a bona fide hero,” his longtime pal Patrick Clawson told the Daily News. “He saved Lynne’s life.”
The dynamic couple was on a working vacation, roadtripping from Washington, D.C., to California when they stopped on Tuesday night at a Motel 6 in Albuquerque.
Russell, a pioneering anchor for 18 years with CNN Headline News, went to grab something from their car shortly before midnight when she spotted a stranger.

The husband and wife are both licensed firearms owners and experienced shooters, and De Caro quickly armed himself with a pocket 9 mm handgun...

Russell and De Caro are skilled in self-defense. Russell, a licensed private investigator, is a black-belt martial artist, he said. She stunned talk show host Conan O'Brien in 1994 when she appeared on his program wearing a little black dress and a thigh-holstered handgun.
De Caro, who is a former CNN investigative reporter, also consults on warfare information for the Pentagon, he said.

As in most cases this self defense scenario would have benefited from common sense more than firearms. 1. They should have picked a better place to stay - a 'motel' really? 2. Staying at the shithole they were in she should have known better than to go out at midnight. 3. She should have assessed the situation better once in the lot and screamed or ran.
Finally the 'hero' basically got lucky. Three hits at point blank range he is lucky to be alive. All this could have been avoided by paying an extra $50 for a room. Carry all the weapons you want but use your common sense.
PS This is a best case scenario for gun advocates. A trained elite military man and his weapons-trained wife barely hold off one punk with a pistol. A lib would have picked a nicer place and have been eatin Lox and bagels the next morning instead of being on life support...

The ongoing joke, is if you shoot the perp outside the home, drag his bloody in and out the doorway .. probably wouldn't work in today's world of forensics.
A friend of mine, told me his friend had to shoot (and killed) an intruder in the middle of the night in his home.
After it was apparent this guy was immobilized, he handed the gun to his wife who told police, she couldn't wake her husband in time and went out and shot the guy himself.
The police determined immediately, that it was a clear case of self defense . woman against the intruding man.
If it were man on man, there would have been a lot more red tape and investigation, etc.
Just a true story I thought I'd pass along.

If the point is people that look like him are more likely to have voted for Obama. Then the point is pretty stupid to begin with and referring to felons that cant vote definitively as "Obama voters" is ridiculous especially because they can't vote.
