peyote ceremonies are spiritual.

Johns Hopkins is studying the religious aspects of these ceremonies through magic mushrooms. I am a virgin when it comes to these experiences. Anyone have a mystic experience from doing shrooms or LSD?

Seriously...Bill W, the founder of AA was changed by these experiences. People have been cured through this process. But I think Furfur is beyond help.

The NAC (Native American Church) uses these methods to heal. Recently a woman with shingles was cured.

you cannot be cured of shingles. They are akin to chicken pox being that the virus that causes them takes root in your spinal cord and you can have an outbreak under extreme duress or times of stress OR if you come in contact with someone experiencing an outbreak of Chicken Pox.

All you do is trip. The buttons can't be digested so you chuck it up...Very special, Spunky. What makes this better than shrooms or even acid?

I don't know, I haven't tried any of those you mentioned and wouldn't. I had never heard of people being healed or experiencing spiritual enlightment before I heard NPR talking about it. Most of the peyote comes from Texas, only 2 people there are certified through the DEA to collect it for these churches. Mexico had a huge population but it's drying up fast.

If you aren't into drugs, why start a thread about its supposed benefits?

I told you this already, I found the information I heard on NPR regarding this ceremony interesting, for healing alcoholics and those suffering some how. I wasn't aware that there was a spiritual or healing aspect to this experience.

Spunky, its nothing more than a hallucinogen. Just like people in the 60s thought LSD would put you on a higher plane of existence.
The difference is Native Americans don't abuse it. If it became legal, you know how many peyote junkies this country would have?

I am not saying it should be legalized. The idea that it's controled through the NAC is interesting and appreciated. As far as something being legalized or not, means nothing or we wouldn't have drug addicts now. Let's deal in reality...OK?

Anyone who expects a chemical to take them to a transcendent place is a fool. The Drug not the user is in control. Meditating and studying philosophy are the ways to earn mental and spiritual enlightenment. You cannot use drugs as a short cut. Drugs are for entertainment.

Do you meditate? I certainly believe in the power of prayer and

have considered Yoga and meditation also for enlightenment.

But who says drugs are entertainment? I take medicine everyday, which my ex-

called DRUGS, he thought anything you take is a drug, medicine or not. Some

benefits come from drugs, as well as drawbacks. Our society has been conditioned

to believe DRUGS are all bad, which some, in controlled situations can be helpful.

I am not advocating the Timothy Leary approach, just acknowledging the stigma.

peyote is a drug best used for entertainment not enlightenment

Your above post sure sounds a helluva lot like the Leary approach.

Yes. I would call it more enlightening than mystical. Your ego is dissolved and you are stripped bare, left to see your personal flaws and shortcomings. It can be quite enlightening to say the least. However many people cannot withstand the shock of having them stripped bare of their precious ego, forced to face the naked truth of their insignificance in this universe.
