Meade Skelton: Musical Failure

Meade's holding an autoharp. To play it, you depress the chord levers with your left hand. Dampers on the levers make sure only the "proper" notes in that chord will play.
You strum with your right hand. Felt picks are common, but you can use a guitar pick.
So…Meade Skelton…he's doing it all wrong. Since he claims to play some guitar, which works in pretty much the same way (damp with the left, strum with the right), you'd think he knows. Perhaps, however, he's trying for an artistic effect.
Advanced musicians could use the instrument as something of a miniature harp. Based on Meade's general musical incompetence, that seems unlikely.

THe Op is a dunce. The Autoharp is played nothing like a guitar. Meade holds it correctly. Across the chest and upright. The left hand pushes the chord and the right hand strums. He is apparently using picks on his fingers. That is how an autohrap is played.

I once saw him do a 20 minute harp solo in Richmond. It really electrified the crowd on won them over. He has an incredible stage presence.

I know he used to talk about learning how to be a Guardian Angel on the streets of Richmond,or forming a unit. GAs were a bunch of volunteers who would walk the bad streets of NYC protecting folks. Used to wear a red beret and a baseball jacket. That was back when he was in his prime though.
