You are right. Thousands die in the US every year from the regular flu, and when one dies from this Mexican flu the administration advises the public to avoid air travel and mass transit. GOOD ONE, GROWNUPS. TELL THE TRUTH!

Their statements have been alarmist... statements like "All of humanity is under threat" are a little overblown when they don't make those same statements about seasonal flu. All of humanity is under threat from allergies and bad colds, and those can sideline you for a couple of days like the swine flu will, but the WHO isn't handing out masks to filter pollen and other allergens.

Now what they SHOULD be saying is the intent is to prevent the spread of this or any other flu virus to underdeveloped nations where the population's health isn't as robust.

I do agree with that fear, which is why I am in favor of level-headed statements that reflect reality so everyone knows to believe them this time and every time. BUT... in this case I'm willing to give benefit of the doubt because some of the statements we have heard may have originated in other languages and nuances may have been lost or mistranslated.
