Why is everyone going nutz about the swing flu? The (regular) flu kills people all the time and spreads from Asia every year. What's so special (and troublesome) about this swine flu that has everyone up in arms?

What I'd like to know is why it's called "swine" flu?? These are pigs, people. Who walks around calling pigs "swine" in real life? It's not like you walk into a restaraunt and order "swine chops", or "swine fried rice" at a Chinese place. It's just silly. Why the sudden name change once people start getting sick?

It's a big deal because we don't have a vaccine for it. But, yes, it is being overblown based on what we know about the virus.

Yeah, one death so far in the US. 160 in Mexico and counting.
Issuing a public health warning is helping to keep it from getting worse. People are being more cautious and actually washing their hands etc. Without a warning, everyone would be bitching about how the government didn't tell them about it.
Besides, the media needed something to get their panties in a twist about.
