Can someone tell me if this used Corvette is priced right?

1991 Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1
11,000 miles
6 spd manual
350 L98
11,000 miles

It's obviously not mint condition but, this looks like a really nice price for a used hi-po Corvette.

This is a very unrealisitc, if not insulting, price. With the parameters you provided, the car sells at a price point closer to $20,000. If it has the automtatic transmission, you can bet it has the lower powered V-8, so the price is closer to $15,000.

You are coming to a place where half the posters think Ted Cruz is fit to be president to ask for car advice? That is like ask the Taliban for marriage advice or Sarah Palin for help with your 6th grade science homework.

Holy crap! You're right, Bud...I just ran this car through Edmunds.com and it came back at $21,000! Oh well...I guess one is never going to find a "steal" on a Corvette...

Vette,

If you are willing to spend $40k, you should be able to find a Corvette circa 2007 to 2009 that fits your needs. Of course, chances are it will have been roughly driven and poorly maintained. Ask the owner for service records...keeping records illustrates TLC.

Personally, Vette quality and style ended around 1971...I prefer the era from 1963 to 1967.

The interior looks cheap... like a 1980s Pontiac. Otherwise looks like an amazing car.

Oh, no question! I'm a C2 guy all the way. The only reason I was even considering that C4 is because it was a low mileage ZR-1...

Everything prior to the C5 was shit except for collecting. If you want a corvette you can actually use as a daily driver, get a C5.

It is certainly one of the less attractive body styles. One generation back or one generator forward would certainly be better looking.

I'll show my bias...when in doubt buy a Porsche 911. Seventy five percent of all 911s made since the fist year (1963) are still on the road. Up until the mid 1980s, they required only basic mechanical skills, so repairs and mods were easy. The original 1963 model has much of styling of the 2015. It's a simple classic look. Fit and performance have always been solid and they will often outperform cars with twice the horsepower given the power to weight ratio...all with a flat six that is very, very efficient.

If you own a newer 911, you better be a mechanic or be good friends with one because it will take you to the poor house repairing it.

Get the Cayman S, not as quick as the 911 but a lot better reliability, easier to repair, and cheaper to buy.

The engineers finally found a rear engine configuration that worked and they can't change it.

Far be it for me to question the impeccable tradition of the Porsche 911 but, I drove one twice. It was my first time and my last time.

I went in hot on that sharp turn on Burke Road near the Burke Nursery. I took my foot off the gas after I entered the turn to apply the brakes and the rear end snapped around and I went off into the trees. To be clear, I pushed the car beyond its limits...the mistake was all mine. I've never been more terrified in a car and have since written off owning one.

Never never do this. You are going to get weight transfer to the front of vehicle and, of course, loss of control.

Your ass and ten gallons of gas will not hold a curve in that oaf of a car.Its not too hard hard to get sideways on a straightaway. Vettes are sleds.

Yep, you're absolutely correct. Porsches require a driver for operation.

BS. When I drove with the BMW club racers at Summit the Corvettes would kick our asses. Not now and then, every time. Easy to get a ton of power out of them and suspension and brakes are as good as any.

Oh yeah! My current 911 is a 2009, which thankfully comes with an electronic feature called Porsche Stability Managment. I was instructed at time of purchase to never turn it off unless I was on the track. When PSM is off the hellish rear end has a mind of its own.

Well gee whiz, boys. I got me a 1965 VW and I shovel it into turns all the time. You gotta be a man with rear boxer engines. Never take your foot off the accelerator when the rear starts slipping.

You obviously know nothing about driving a high performance car at speed. You NEVER brake in the corner, you brake BEFORE the corner. Always try to brake in a straight line. Once you reach the apex of the corner you get back in the gas.

Sure, but you have to admit that the power to weight ratio on a 65 Bug is not as onerous. The same guy designed both cars, but with different pruposes.

If you happen to drive a FWD vehicle, I think you can get away with braking into a corner. It has been a while since I have driven FWD though.

A modern corvette no longer has a solid live axle. That should handily beat any modern Porsche since the rear suspension in the corvette was the only thing holding it back. The weight distribution in the corvette is significantly better.

Today's privileged will buy or buy into anything for that extra half inch.
Why would anyone purchase a car with a rear end control switch. Stupid in every conceivable way. One might conclude you payed to get jerked around by not getting jerked around.

This is the Off Topic forum. I think you want Douchebag section. Neverthless, I had an '85 and got a current model in 2009. The PSM switch was irrelevant. The JD Power report was. Fantastic combo of performance and daily driver. Oh, by the way, go fuck yourself...with a pine cone.

a Pussy Selector Mechanism is more appropriate. They install automatic transmissions for Americans who are either to lazy or can't drive a manual. Porsche's are designed for the middle age crisis generation. Long gone are the air cooled flat fours, 4speed trans, coco mats and bucketseats that had the sweet smell of sweat and suntan lotion of a girlfriend.
Porsche caps extra.

Wow...I take a couple of days off and the thread goes to shit. I love how I completely admitted it was my mistake and yet people still give me grief about it. I'm 58 years old now...my shunt in the 911? Erm yeah...that happened 40 years ago. Lemme do the math FOR you...That means that happened when I was 17 years old. It was the first time I had ever driven that car and it was the first time I had ever driven that road. Could I and should I have been more cautious on my approach, entrance and exit of that turn? Absolutely. Would ANY 17 year old in that same situation had a different experience? Fewer than one percent I'm sure.

Oh and let's not forget...no spoiler, no ABS, no traction control and bias-ply tires.

So, I guess all the naesayers on here must be Amish...they would shun technology and have us ride in buggies lest we be Hochmut!

As for the odor of my 911, on odd combination of Floris 89, Hoppes, and farts.
