He joined a "church" (Rev. Wright's) that is really little more than a tax-exempt social justice and empowerment organization.

One thing you learn in life is, never trust somebody who wears his religion on his sleeve. I'll take an atheist President any day. Maybe he is an atheist. If he is, he couldn't have been elected if he was honest about it. So what. You think other politicians haven't faked their religious beliefs? My guess is that most of them do. I don't think Obama is an atheist. He uses "god" in too many speeches and on too many occasions. I believe he's like most watered down, American christians who only call upon god when the going gets rough and maybe on holidays like Easter and Christmas. The rest of the year it's "yeah, I know god says it's wrong, but fuck it". For many, even just going to church is too much hassle.

And like most, he picks and chooses the parts of the bible he likes and tosses the rest so his speeches reach the poor and less educated.
