Schwarzenegger GOPs man for 2012?
Posted by: Insight ()

The GOP is in tatters right now...no debating that. However, I think only Arnold Schwarzenegger (Republican, California Governor) has a true shot at beating Obama in the 2012 elections. He has the experience, starpower, and connections to make it happen. He hasn't announced it yet, but this is something that could really save the GOPs rear end. Naysayers might argue, "But he was born in Europe, an automatic DQ for running for president." Well, we live in more progressive times now. B.H.O was born in Kenya, and he became President, so whats to stop Arnold? Why isn't Arnold Schwarzenegger's name being tossed around more?

Jesus. Are you that stupid?

From Article II of the U.S. Constitution...

Clause 5: Qualifications for office

"No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States."

It would take a Constitutional Amendment to get Arnold in. If you started that process today, it would probably take 10 years to get accomplished if you could even get it accomplished.

There are ways to circumvent the constitution. It's not set in stone. Obama did it. Arnold Schwarzenegger should just do what Obama did and give it a shot.

For arguments sake, say Obama was secretly born in Kenya and he has produced a forged birth certificate that hasn't been discredited, it is really up to people like you to prove otherwise, right? As far as I can tell, Arnold has been on the record for more than 50 years that he was born in Austria.

Secretly born? It's not a secret. If Obama can do it, there's no reason Arnold can't. It's a double standard.

I know I'm posting in a troll thread, but...

After we change one pesky amendment to better suit a political party's agenda, what's the next amendment on the chopping block?

The constitution and its amendments are fine. This is not a troll thread. It's a serious discussion on how to save the GOP. They're in tatters right now, and need a good, strong leader to their party from the ashes and the folk. Arnold might just be that guy.

If "the constitution and its amendments are fine," then why not get a GOP frontrunner that doesn't need to have the "just fine" constitution altered to get him into office?

Arnold's running one of the most bankrupt states in the country, and he got into office on a fucking gimmick. If you really want to see the GOP get ahead, why not start advocating real, non-slimy candidates instead of a washed-up body-builder/bad actor?

Republican Senator, Orrin Hatch, actually proposed the idea of a "Shwarzenegger amendment" to the Constitution that would allow foreign-born citizens to become president. It actually had support within the GOP ranks about 5 years ago, but like most of their ideas, it too failed.

I would say scrap the whole idea and just go find a viable candidate.

I think Arnolds ok as a personality. However, his refusal to raise taxes and instead, borrow and spend, has put CA on a downward spiral. If it were not for this Stimulus package, they would be totally screwed.

I'm no Constitutional scholar, but I believe it would take a Constitutional
Convention in order to change the requirement. Good luck getting that one
started. Who's going to re-write the new one? Hillary? Har!

For fucks sake. Obama has a valid birth certificate stating that he was born on U.S. soil. Arnold doesn't. End of fucking story.

They're just upset that the person they voted for didn't make it into office. But if McCain made it to office, do you think those same people would even make a deal about McCain being born in Panama?

there is absolutely no conclusive proof that Obama was born in kenya

did you also know that in addition to being a "good, strong leader" Arnold is also a Nazi simpathizer? His grand father was an SS soldier, and Arnold even wears an SS belt because he likes the "style" so much.

There's a big difference between being a sympathizer and wearing a belt with a swastika, which by the way did not originate with the Nazis.

Oh, and we aren't Klingons shithead. We don't carry our parent's dishonor for 7 generations. Affiliation with the Nazi party isn't genetic, although I'm sure they tried.

uh its not a swastica, is a skull and cross bones on the belt, with the SS logo. And i dont understand what you are saying, you're saying we cant blame him for what his grandfather did, yet we can excuse the fact that he likes the "style" so much that he wears old SS gear?

The buckles worn by members of the SS had either lightning bolts or the swastika surrounded on top by an eagle and on the bottom by a slogan written in german. If you take 4 seconds and dig up a photo of Arnold's supposed SS belt buckle you'll quickly see that it contains neither german writing, lightning bolts or swastika, or the german eagle emblem.

Second, blaming someone for the behavior of their parents/grandparents/great grandparents/etc. is illogical. Even moreso when the person you are blaming wasn't alive for some/all of their relative's behavior.
