There was a time when intellectuals of both liberal and conservative opinionslike Gore Vidal appeared on TV regularly. It was wonderful...people actually were exposed to intelligent debate...it's virtually all gone now. If you want to watch the last vestige of that era...here he is

I agree, now we just have people posting random rants on Internet forums screaming "Repubikan!" and posting supportive comments about all of America's enemies and criminals, and harsh criticisms for the law-abiding and America's allies.

Who in the Georgian incident is the oppressed? The break away republic that the Georgians tried to reclaim is populated by a minority ethnic group that feels the Georgian government is oppresing them..thus their desire to break away. Yes..that minority has alligned themselves with the Russians. What other option do they have?...the entire Western world has declared them a region of Georgia!
