There was an article in the paper about Arenas. Since he has been with the Wizards, he has spent more games on the bench with injuries than he has actually played...by about 50 games.

The guy is a great talent. But if he keeps ending up on the bench, he isn't much help in the end.

to Washingtonelocian thats an interesting fact/stat. He did however bring the Wizards into relevance again by leading them to the playoffs after some 10-15 odd years.
So im hoping today marks the end of a injury plagued chapter in Gilberts life. i got nothing but support for this dude. If the Wiz can get a productive future allstar maybe with their high lottery pick with the addition of a superstar talent back on the squad there a top 4 team in the Eastern Conference

This is true. If you will recall, Eddie Jordan managed to get the Wizards to the playoffs with Arenas on the bench much of the season. And when the Wizards didn't advance in the playoffs it was due to LeBron James, one of the greatest players in the game. In other words, I think Abe Polin made a huge mistake getting rid of Jordan so early in the season. I think bad coaching was one of the reasons why the Wizards were in the wilderness for that 10 to 15 years and there's no guarantee the Wiz won't return to that under a new coach.

That is a good point. Eddie Jordan was a great coach and from the D.C area, it was sad to see him go. However, when heathy(big if as of late) they have 3 all stars and that right there is enough to push them to a first round playoff spot for sure.
The Wizards have pushed Lebron to a 7 game series, 6 game series, and 4 when everyone was hurt. Although the Cavs have gotten a lot better since even last year,with Mo Williams, if the wiz's add a good lottery pick it could swing the power to D.C.
Think of a 20 and 10 Blake Griffen to go in the post with Jamison, Caron Butler the 3, a lock down defender Deshawn Stevenson/or potential perennial scorer in Nick Young, and Gilbert Arenas at PG who shoots the shit outa the ball and can drive!
Seems real dangerous to me

Sam Mitchell(Toronto Raptors)
Jeff Van Gundy ( i dont even know- hes broadcasting)
Avery Johnson ( Dallas Mavericks-my fav choice)
Flip saunders ( Detroit Pistons)

It would be good to have someone who has won a championship. The Wizards need more than a Norv Turner/Marty Schottenheimer type that lets them down in the playoffs.

I agree with you. the big question is who?

I literally cant think of anyone who has won a title and is not coaching right now.

Doc rivers, Popavich, Larry brown, Phil jackson, Pat riley is with the Heat...

im pushing my brain right now i cant think of any one else... Phil has like 100 rings its unfair

Part of the problem is that the Jackson/Riley/Popavich teams have dominated so long, there aren't many championship coaches to choose from. Doc Rivers success is so recent and Larry Brown really had one huge success after years of trying, it is hard to tell if either of those guys could be successful here or with any other teams.

It seems like every other winning coach (Rudy Tomjanovich and Chuck Daly) had/has cancer.

Yeah thats why initially i thought Avery Johnson would be a good coach for the Wizards. He has been to the championship has had many very successful coaching seasons, has won a championship with the spurs back in 99 i think.

It also would be interesting to see how well he coaches with out Mark Cuban in his ear 24/7.

With Gilbert the Wizards were a very up-tempo team and i think Avery Johnson would be a good coach for that kind of team.

either way im excited for what 2009-2010 brings for the Wizards
