So I received an anonymous donation...

So I received an anonymous donation today of $100! When I first got the email I was almost positive it was spam, but when I logged into my PayPal account the money was there.

The donation came attached with the note: "use for advertising the fairfax underground web forum"

First off, to the anonymous donater, thank you very much! But I am a little concerned about your request as to how the money should be used.

I don't think traditional advertising (in a newspaper or what have you) is appropriate for this site. Advertising is what businesses do to increase profits, and this site isn't concerned about profit.

A site like this would benefit far more from "guerilla advertising." For example if I spent the $100 on something like FairfaxUnderground.Com stickers, and then gave them away to whoever wanted them (hopefully to be plastered in visible places). Or hell, $100 worth of white bed sheets and spray paint, and hang them on overpasses. Although that's probably illegal.

To the donater, I don't know if you even read these forums, but if you do and have a more specific idea of what you'd like me to do with the money, please email me at cary@fairfaxunderground.com and let me know.

To everyone else, Uhhhhhhhh, so I got $100 bucks for "advertising." What the hell should I do with it?

Give it to Detective Vicky Armel's family:

1. giving the meny away to the dead cops is a good idea
2. why should vicky armel get money and not the other dude?
3. The best way to advertise this site was done last year, on the Don and Mike show... anyone remember how well that worked? And it was pretty much free.

The best place to give the stickers out would be at a rave or similar niche club. People who hang out at those places always like to feel like they are part of some undiscovered undeground thing or another.

I was thinking more of the kids... I am sure donating to the other detective's fund is a worthy cause as well but he was older with a grown family. Split it 50/50, whatever.

I was thinking with as much static as the FCPD gets on this site it would be a nice gesture.

Well you could use the money to let us type in color. Or you cold take your girlfriend out to dinner. Or you could get some shirts that say Fairfax Underground and give them out as prizes for the post of the month and then sell them. You should call Stan Darke at Liberte clothing. He used to make all our t shirts when I taught middle school. He is really nice and I bet he would give you a good price.

Hugs, Trickie

give it to the cops family? pff... they already recieved a shitload of money. in anycase,.... WAIT! i got it.... rent out some advertising space that is huge for just a couple days and list don's dead wife's police record. that'll really get the people here with don's head exploding on the radio all day. lol! or you could change it all into ones and write the web address on them and then just use them in purchases. ok... well... everyone could do that actually. hmm... you could hold a free raffle, with tickets with the address and of coarse a sign there saying it's from this site, at Mason and give away the money. that's sure to get plenty of GMU people here... people are chumps for money.

I'm into the sticker idea, and a little guerilla advertising.

Also, Gravis, it's "of course"

You could buy some weed and smoke us all up.

You could also donate it to the Policemen's Assassins' Fund. All the poor children left behind by those dead assassins.

stickers are a good idea. Hell the bedsheets are an even better idea but good luck getting someone to do it. Maybe you can just pay them $100 bucks hang it somewhere high-traffic.

im worried tho about the stickers. it's a lot harder to get people to remember a website and type it in later than it is for them just to click a link. maybe you spend the money for google adwords for anything with "fairfax" in it.

i don't know if you have a facebook account, but they're running a thing right now where you can post fliers to a certain school. it's pretty cheap too, like $10 for 5,000 views. so say you post a "flier" for GMU, since you're pretty sure they'll all be local. if it doesn't work out you still have $90 left. it's a hell of a lot easier than the stickers, and people just click, they don't have to remember jack.

not a sermon, just a thought

the google ad is a good idea, if you want to do ads that may be the way to go, problem is, 100 bucks may be too penny-ante for Google. Ask and you will find out I am sure.

Hmmm, the facebook thing is actually an excellent idea, i'll look into it.

Google AdSense would be nice, but I think just getting this page ranked higher by google for "fairfax" or "va" searches would be better. Google already brings 100 or so unique visitors a day.

I was looking at sticker prices today and a custom run is at least $150, unless you only want to get like 10. Anyone know any good CHEAP sticker places? Local or on the internet. I already tried all the top places on google.

Do we really need to attract any more mason grads? Maybe if the ads went up for some good schools there would be an intellectual influx. Posting an ad for the george morons will just increase traffic in the "People who should be banned" thread.

People put flags on overpasses all the time. Why not a bed sheet? the 28-29 overpass, just go out in the middle of the night and tie it on when there's nobody. Wear gloves.

Well the Facebook thing tanked. Oh well, $10 down the drain.

I've got $90 left and am going back to the sticker idea.

Also, someone sent me an email with an interesting idea. T-Shirts.

The pitched T-Shirt design was the FU logo on the front and a list of the "famous" arrests on the arrest list on the back with something cheesy like "Fairfax County, nobody escapes"

I don't think I'm going to do anything like it, but it's a good idea to mull over.

I would be willing to pay up to 35 dollars for a tee shirt, needs to be available in 3X.
