The Founding Fathers didn't distinguish between private gun ownership and being in a militia. Essentially, if you owned a gun you were part of the militia.

A lot of pundits seem to believe "the 2nd Amendment was created to protect the American government" but they are confused. The intent seems to have been “best security of a free country." The American government is not a country or even the United States.

Some people seem to think that the United States is comprised of Federal and State governments. Wrong. This country is comprised of its citizens and is not a collection of governments with some proles running around to pay taxes.

That was the intent. The original Founding Fathers weren't thrilled about the idea of a standing army since it could be easily turned against the people. But, if the people decide that the call to war is unjust, they are perfectly entitled to ignore the call to arms. The militia was a defence against tyranny, foreign and domestic.

Loesch = hot would hit deep.
