HICKORY, N.C. — A Bunker Hill High School student was killed in an accidental shooting Friday night.
According to deputies, 16-year-old Austin Hedrick was riding in a truck with his father when a rifle accidentally fired from the inside.

The school’s principal said Hedrick made an impact as a student-athelete.

"[He was] an all around good kid,” said Bunker Hill principal Jeff Isenhour. “He played with the Junior Varsity football team and really was powerful in keeping those boys motivated."

Hedrick is the third Bunker Hill student to die this year. Two others died in a car accident a few weeks ago.

Police are still investigating the shooting. No charges have been filed and no arrests have been made.
