The annual pumpkin festival sets another record this year but not for the pride of Keene, N.H. The festival has been chaotic due to revelers which drew the police officers to wear their riot gear. Last year the city sets the most lighted jack-o’-lanterns in one place at one time which is a world record.

The police officers made at least 49 arrests related to the chaos which started early Friday morning and early Sunday morning. The scenes resulted to 235 calls that have been logged in the police department although not all were related to the disturbances.
Based on the photos and videos available in the social media sites, the hordes of partyers chanted obscenities at the police, set boxes on fire, knocked over street signs and stood an overturned car. The police officers decided to contain the crowds by using pepper balls and tear gas. After the location has been cleared Keene State students come together to clean the streets. They removed the beer cans as well as the debris that was left after the party.

Currently, the college officials are reviewing the images and videos available including those that were posted in social media sites. They are also checking the media coverage which will give them the lead for those who were involved in the disturbances. The president of Keene State College, Anne Huot, leads the investigation for the presence of their students in the riot. She said in their school website that the most serious defenders will receive interim suspension. However, it will also lead to the student’s expulsion.
Gov. Maggie Hassan was also concerned with the situation and she called the city manager, chief of police and the chief of the Fire Department for a meeting on Sunday. The three mentioned officers did not release any details about the issue.
