Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
I have completed my plan. I'll be thru hiking the AT next year. This will be my first time. Longest hike I've ever done took two weeks, 6 months will be a challenge. libs wouldn't understand.

Six times, that's great. Three years of your life. I'll look you up on the register. What's your trail name?

Yea..A morbidly obese trailer park king with a Walmart job is going to hike the AT?
I doubt your you could make it to the trailhead. Oh and when you fail, will it be Obama fault? Stupid Teabagger full of shit. Better bring you AK47, there might be some mice in the shelter.
Look at all the hate and jealousy. Morbidly obese? Umm, I'm 6'3 and weigh 180, ridden 4 centuries this year and ran one half marathon and a few 5ks with my kids.
Damn, libs hate anybody that enjoys life.
For the other question, nobo. Starting in Georgia. I finalized all logistics today.
Last time a republican hiked "the Appalachian Trail" he ended up in a woman's vagina in Buenos Aries. We all know what you mean when they say the are "hiking the Appalachian Trail."
Who the hell has time to not work for six months anyway? Must be nice to be a trust fund baby.

Yea,
Like any nutjob teatard does anything in nature except destroy it...
What is your trailname? "Squeals like a pig" ?
I call bullshit like everything you post. You might just as well have said, "I am taking my spaceship to Saturn"
More jealousy. You probably commute to work too. Like I said, libs wouldn't understand. libs hate life.
Oh by the way. I am the boss. When you own your own corporation, you earn the time off. Hell, I give employees time off to complete lifelong dreams if they request it. I encourage it and offer financial planning to them to reach such goals. Again, libs wouldn't understand any of this as it involves ambition, commitment, responsibility and love for life. All values foreign to a lib.

As someone who has always wanted to thru-hike the AT and has recently started seriously researching it I wanted to leave an encouraging note. But then I read what you wrote above and I have to call bullshit. Whats stopping me from thru-hiking? A job. Kids. A wife, mortgage, car payment. Anyone who says they have "kids" and is then saying they are going to thru-hike the AT is either extremely selfish or full of shit. I have no intention of missing out on 6 months of my kids' lives so the only way I'm doing the AT is when they hit college and I retire. I could easily do it financially but as a family man its out of the question. So again, I call bullshit.
But, I'm also willing to play along. Maybe your "kids" are grown. I'm curious as to your "logistics" and how you plan on getting to either start point, your food/shelter strategies, etc.

Read "AWOL on the A.T." by David Miller. He did it, left his job, wife, and kids at home and accomplished his goal to thru hike. It's a great read. It's also a book that tempered my inner desire to thru-hike the whole trail. The Appalachian Trail's physical challenge isn't nearly as great as the mental challenge of living outside in the woods for 5 months, getting soaked in the rain for days at a time without a shower or toilet, eating whatever you can scrounge, etc. There's a definite charm to accomplishing such a task, but his book gives you a good idea of the lengthy trial it requires. Including those perpetually-recurring thoughts that you've left your family and children behind for months so you can walk from uncomfortable campsite-to-campsite for months on end.

I do not agree. I think that setting a goal, planning for that goal, working to achieve that goal and accomplishing that goal instills an example of a strong work ethic and commitment in my children. It's a great lesson. They have been involved in the planning and my son is going to accompany me at certain times.
They'll be tracking me and will see me from time to time in person and frequently by video conferencing. You act as if its abandonment which is just stupid. I see my kids and know my kids better than you know your own, I guarantee that.
Do it. Show your kids to live life to the fullest and don't take it for granted.

you're supposed to say this kind of stuff AFTER you've finished hiking, not while you're just sitting on the internet talking about it.
Blue Mule here GA>>>>ME 1999.
The OP will get tied up and beaten in his sleep if he tries to run his mouth on the trail. All the hikers are libs. OP may want to camp and stay away from the trail shelters to survive. I was staying at the Priest in the GWNF when some right wing pig like the OP started talking shit. I wanted to beat his ass but had to settle for throwing his boots down the outhouse pit.

Oh the intolerant lib. Full of hate and ignorance. It's impossible to have a discussion with such closed minded individuals. God forbid they listen to somebody who loves liberty, freedom and America.
My experience from my weekend hikes is that the young people on the trail are waking up to all the bullshit lies of libs. They are unemployed and are forced to pay for Obama Care but can't find a job to pay for it so they decided to get on welfare and hike the AT. I have actually hired two of the people I met on the trail because we had the same ideas and goals. Contrary yo what you libs think, people love this country and want to see it and help it do better.

Walking pneumonia here. I never completed the trail but did over 400 miles. I met all kinds of folks on the trail, the good the bad and plenty of the ugly. I made a few lifetime friends and met a lot of people I could not wait to get away from. Throwing someones boots in the shitter when they are 6 miles from the nearest road is a bitch move. If you don't like the company at the shelter then go pitch your tent.

So... you posted here to brag to a bunch of basement trolls, Mr. CEO?
Oh, btw, I'm the owner of Disney World, just trolling the forum.

I stayed in one if those AT shelters in Vermont while section hiking near Killington. It got jam packed with thru hikers early in the evening, there must have been 30 of us trying to sleep in there, even a few people showing up in the middle of the night looking for space, and while everyone was sleeping somebody kept shouting "KILL FAGGOTS!" and then running back into the woods. I'm sure we would've killed him if we could find out who it was, he woke up the whole shelter a few times.

Why do people post such transparently false bullshit. I hike all the time, and nobody stops to talk to other hikers about politics, especially with some geezer douche who tries to talk about politics.

lol
yeah, I was hiking in Harpers Ferry last week and along the way I greeted some people and said "So how do you folks all feel about people who are too dependent on government?".
and of course, as total strangers trying to enjoy themselves out in the middle of the woods, they were more than happy to talk about important Fox News-related ideology. we even shouted "Benghazi" a few times as a sign of our camaraderie.

I wonder if LHA has ever even been in the woods? Well maybe to bury the body of the transvestite hooker he murdered to avoid paying her/him.
OP should be planning to start soon if hiking NOBO.
Best of luck to you. Grew up just off the trail and it's always been a goal of mine to thru-hike it someday. Did 3/4 of VA in between jobs a decade ago, but I'd imagine the physical aspect would be a lot tougher at retirement age.

yeah ok there brah.
if you're such a hardass thru-hiker, make sure you tell the other thrus they're newbs because they started early (in march, lol). you'll meet hordes of them before you even get to fontana.
hikers love braggarts, being obnoxious adds to the community spirit. hope you enjoy being unwelcome up and down the trail, and hiking all alone.
