Scientists have declared a new record has been set for the extent of Antarctic sea ice since records began.
Satellite imagery reveals an area of about 20 million square kilometres covered by sea ice around the Antarctic continent.
Jan Lieser from the Antarctic Climate and Ecosystems Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) said the discovery was made two days ago.
"This is an area covered by sea ice which we've never seen from space before," he said.
"Thirty-five years ago the first satellites went up which were reliably telling us what area, two dimensional area, of sea ice was covered and we've never seen that before, that much area.
"That is roughly double the size of the Antarctic continent and about three times the size of Australia."

Of course, being good jornos they try to salvage the lie by finding some leftwingnut to say that more ice is actually a sign of global warming.

Extent of Antarctic sea ice reaches record levels, scientists say
Scientists have declared a new record has been set for the extent of Antarctic sea ice since records began.

Climate is a pretty complex thing that you obviously don't understand. Record levels of sea ice can actually be caused by warming temperatures. Warmer water causes stronger currents and winds which can move ice around allowing more ice to form. In this case we can actually look at the temperatures in this region over time and plainly see the warming trend. I know this requires a greater than fourth grade understanding of science to comprehend, so just trust those if us who at least went to middle school on this, ok?

All you dumbasses that hate science just need to consider that this was the hottest summer on record in the DC area. Ever. In history. We had, like, at least 4 days over 90 degrees. That shit proves it right there. And Obama said so, so I knows it's true. That's all the science I need.
