Yes and then we had an emergency and he shut the fuck up. Unlike the asshole Repugs whom, in the face of another national emergency are collectively rooting for failure. Dreaming of it wishing for it. The only similarity is that the Dems were just as insignificant then as the Repugs are now...

Obama's pledge to tighten gun control laws has led to firearms sales soaring across America.

Manufacturers are struggling to keep up with demand, and many gun shops running low on stock as the US public buys weapons in anticipation of tighter controls.

On the campaign trail last year Obama proposed restoring a Clinton-era ban on several types of military-style semi-automatic rifles and high-capacity magazines, as well as background checks for buyers at gun shows, and other "common-sense measures."

His pledge has proved a potent catalyst, with manufacturers recording soaring profits since his election.

"Since November, sales of firearms -- in particular handguns and semi-automatic hunting and target rifles -- are fast outpacing inventory," said Steve Sanetti, president of the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the trade association for the US firearms and ammunition industry.

"Americans are clearly concerned about their ability to be able to purchase these products in an uncertain future," he added.

Smith and Wesson last week posted third-quarter profits of $2.4 million, reversing a loss of $1.8 million over the same period the previous year, as its pistol sales leapt 46 per cent and tactical rifle sales more than tripled. Another manufacturer, Sturm Ruger & Co. reported an 81 per cent increase in profits.

Demand for certain ammunition is also outstripping supply as enthusiasts build up stockpiles ahead of threatened tax increases on bullets.

Personal background checks -- which, under federal law, are required of people purchasing rifles and handguns -- jumped 42 per cent at gun stores to a record 1.5 million in November after Obama was elected. Since then, they have risen by an average of 25 per cent each month.

That's 1,875,000 in December, 2,343,750 in January and 2,929,687 in February -- that's 8,648,437 people that have demonstrated an intent to purchase a weapon since Obama was elected. March is half over -- the number must now be around 10,000,000 -- since the election.

In Florida, state authorities have hired an extra 61 people just to help process the waiting list for gun

Michell Malkin comments on ACORN’s shakedown artists and thugs who occupied a public school board meeting room to prevent government educators from cutting costs, firing useless teachers, and dealing with financial realities.

This is now the second "civil disobedience" campaign waged by the entitlement-mongers.

Our Community Organizer-in-Chief, who spoke so voluminously yesterday about education reform, was unavailable for comment…

A school board meeting turned into a display of civil disobedience Tuesday as about 50 "educators" refused to leave, creating a brief standoff with police, who refused to make any arrests in the presence of media.

The members of ACORN and United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA) -- all wearing bright "red" shirts -- entered the Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education meeting on Tuesday afternoon, sat down and began chanting. The fist represents union, as "many weak fingers can come together to create a strong fist", and is also used to express solidarity, generally with oppressed peoples.

Police said the protesters were staging an illegal occupation of a public building. The district said no arrests would occur as long as members of media were in building.

UTLA President A.J. Duffy approached the speakers’ lectern and told the board, "You know why we’re here. You know I’m not leaving this rostrum. You know I’m going to keep talking."

As he spoke several teachers sat on the floor in front of the board and held up signs saying "Students lose when we lose teachers, No layoffs" as the crowd began chanting.

Board President Monica Garcia repeatedly asked Duffy to sit down, but he kept speaking. The microphone was turned off, but Duffy continued to speak and the chanting continued. Garcia then announced that the "disturbance has interrupted our meeting to the point where the orderly conduct of this meeting is not feasible."

Obama Budget Will Bankrupt U. S.

Sen. Judd Gregg of New Hampshire, the top Republican on the Senate Budget Committee, says Obama's massive budget proposal will bankrupt the country.

The senator said Obama's spending plan in the midst of a prolonged recession would leave the next generation with a country too expensive to live in.

Hmmm.... sounds like Senator Gregg is conveniently forgetting how Reagan tripled our national debt, debt that was later doubled by GW Bush. But I guess since he's a Republican he can just blame 9/11 and Bill Clinton for all that.

You're ignoring the magnitude of Obama's deficit. His stimulus bill was the largest increase in the deficit in our history.

Keep the excuses coming..... It'll keep things fun.

Examiner Editorial: Expanded Americorps has stench of authoritarianism

Examiner Editorial 3/26/09

With almost no public attention, both chambers of Congress in the past week advanced an alarming expansion of the Americorps national service plan, with the number of federally funded community-service jobs increasing from 75,000 to 250,000 at a cost of $5.7 billion. Lurking behind the feel-good rhetoric spouted by the measure’s advocates is a bill that upon closer inspection reveals multiple provisions that together create a strong odor of creepy authoritarianism.

The House passed the measure overwhelmingly, while only 14 senators had the sense and courage to vote against it on a key procedural motion.
Every legislator who either voted for this bill or didn’t vote at all has some serious explaining to do.

Last summer, then-candidate Barack Obama threw civil liberties to the wind when he proposed “a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded” as the regular military.
The expanded Americorps is not quite so disturbing, but a number of provisions in the bill raise serious concerns.

To begin with, the legislation threatens the voluntary nature of Americorps by calling for consideration of “a workable, fair and reasonable mandatory service requirement for all able young people.” It anticipates the possibility of requiring “all individuals in the United States” to perform such service, including elementary school students.

The bill also summons up unsettling memories of World War II-era paramilitary groups by saying the new program should “combine the best practices of civilian service with the best aspects of military service,” while establishing “campuses” that serve as “operational headquarters,” complete with “superintendents” and “uniforms” for all participants. It allows for the elimination of all age restrictions in order to involve Americans at all stages of life. And, it calls for the creation of “a permanent cadre” in a “National Community Civilian Corps.”

But that’s not all. The bill also calls for “youth engagement zones” in which “service learning” is “a mandatory part of the curriculum in all of the secondary schools served by the local educational agency.”

This updated form of voluntary community service is also to be “integrated into the science, technology, engineering and mathematics curricula” at all levels of schooling. Sounds like a government curriculum for government-approved “service learning,” which is nothing less than indoctrination.

Now, ask yourself if Congress members who voted for this monstrosity had a clue what they were voting for. If not, they’re guilty of dereliction of duty. If they did, the implications are truly frightening.Annette

Obama will visit Turkey between April 6-7 to attend an annual forum of the Alliance of Civilizations in Istanbul, Spanish diplomatic sources said on Monday. Turkey’s president said Tuesday Obama's planned visit was very important. Obama will attend the second annual forum of the U.N.-led Alliance of Civilizations initiative, co-chaired by Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan and his Spanish counterpart Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero.

The Global Muslim Brotherhood Report describes the Alliance of Civilizations as an organization which is represented in the U.S. and Europe by individuals sympathetic to the global Muslim Brotherhood. According to the AOC website, the AOC "High Level Group Members" in the U.S. and Western Europe are: Prof. John Esposito (United States), Rabbi Arthur Schneier (United States), Hubert Védrine (France), and Karen Armstrong (United Kingdom)

Esposito is an apologist for the radical Islamist movement;

Impugning those who equate Islamist movements "with radicalism and terrorism," Esposito claims that such thinking merely "becomes a convenient pretext for crushing political opposition." Islamist movements, he explains, "are not necessarily anti-Western, anti-American, or anti-democratic." Moreover, he minimizes the fact that those nations that have adopted Islamic law are, for the most part, totalitarian states that export terrorism and egregiously violate the human rights of their inhabitants. " Contrary to what some have advised," he writes, "the United States should not in principle object to implementation of Islamic law or involvement of Islamic activists in government."

In fact all of the attendees above are apologists of either the radical Islamist movement or to the Muslim Brotherhood.

The question is why is the US Commander of Chief of a War on Terrorism attending a conference that supports a radical Islamist point of view?
