It doesn't make sense. They knew he hit her when they doled out the punishment before. So now...the video is released and there is public outrage...so they have to dish out more punishment.

You are correct. This is all about money and the possible loss of revenue. The team owners and the NFL dont care if the players beat, rape, and kill as long as it doesnt affect the bottom line. This would have been a monumental shit storm when he returned from the suspension. The NFL fucked this up right from the start and now their ass got thrown a life line by this video.
