Liberal Fail of the Day: Elizabeth Warren, July 21

Elizabeth Warren's 11 Tenets of Progressivism:

- "We believe that Wall Street needs stronger rules and tougher enforcement, and we're willing to fight for it."
- except of course I'll continue to take their campaign donations and support the Ex-Im bank, one of the easiest corporate welfare programs we could do away with today

- "We believe in science, and that means that we have a responsibility to protect this Earth."
- except when it comes to the mountains of data suggesting GMO food is not harmful

- "We believe that the Internet shouldn't be rigged to benefit big corporations, and that means real net neutrality."
- except when it comes to free speech; some people should not have as much free speech as they currently do

- "We believe that no one should work full-time and still live in poverty, and that means raising the minimum wage."
- because it's better to raise wages for a few and have the rest lose their jobs or never get hired in the first place

- "We believe that fast-food workers deserve a livable wage, and that means that when they take to the picket line, we are proud to fight alongside them."
- because nothing says, "you made a great career choice like following instructions on the inside of the wrapper that say 'place sandwich here'"

- "We believe that students are entitled to get an education without being crushed by debt."
- so we'll continue the government take-over of the student loan program by banning private loans and encouragin colleges to continue to increase tuition faster than inflation. Students with degrees in 18th Century Belgian Lesbian Studies deserve nothing less

- "We believe that after a lifetime of work, people are entitled to retire with dignity, and that means protecting Social Security, Medicare, and pensions."
- and we'll screw over younger generations to make sure the oldsters get their money and vote for us

- "We believe—I can't believe I have to say this in 2014—we believe in equal pay for equal work."
- because this is the best fake problem we've got going

- "We believe that equal means equal, and that's true in marriage, it's true in the workplace, it's true in all of America."
- after we get gay marriage in all the states it will be time to legalize man-boy love (Gerry2 has been begging for this for years now, need to get him off my back)

- "We believe that immigration has made this country strong and vibrant, and that means reform."
- and by reform we mean amnesty and opening the floodgates to third world immigration with a priority of family unification over jobs and skills needs for the economy

- "And we believe that corporations are not people, that women have a right to their bodies. We will overturn Hobby Lobby and we will fight for it. We will fight for it!"
- and everything else I could throw into one catch-all phrase. Dammit, forgot the Koch brothers and blaming Bush

And you forgot -
-We believe in affirmative action even if that means you claim you are part of an ethnic group under affirmative action laws to which you do not actually belong.

"We believe in science, and that means that we have a responsibility to protect this Earth."
- except when it comes to the mountains of data suggesting GMO food is not harmful"

_ Has Warren said that GMO food is harmful?

- "We believe that the Internet shouldn't be rigged to benefit big corporations, and that means real net neutrality."
- except when it comes to free speech; some people should not have as much free speech as they currently do"

Huh?

- "We believe that no one should work full-time and still live in poverty, and that means raising the minimum wage."
- because it's better to raise wages for a few and have the rest lose their jobs or never get hired in the first place"

There's little or no evidence that modest increases in the minimum wage result in fewer jobs. In fact, the states with higher min wages are producing more jobs.

"- "We believe that fast-food workers deserve a livable wage, and that means that when they take to the picket line, we are proud to fight alongside them."
- because nothing says, "you made a great career choice like following instructions on the inside of the wrapper that say 'place sandwich here'""

So, now it's not just the poor that you shame, but hard working people trying to make a buck. Digusting!

Elizabeth Warren is so far left that the Democrats would be idiots to nominate her. Hell, I hate Hillary, and I'd vote for Hillary over her.

Ha, hardly. I think she's too far left to win. Most of the GOP candidates appear to be too far right to win.

Are you stupid, or can you not read? What did I say?

I said that Elizabeth Warren is WAY too far left to win an election in this country. She'd be McGovern or Mondale all over again. In comparison, who do the Republicans have who isn't far-right?

Jeb Bush, yeah, what a fine choice. I hate to see the decline of the opposing party, but when the civil war between the Tea Party and the mainstream GOP ends, things will get back to where they should be.

Warren's list is not all that left. Most Americans would agree on most of the points, and none are fringe.

That's fairly questionable, and the majority of Americans don't vote. Also, keep in mind that money comes from special interests, not Joe Schmo.

I did read it wrong. Sorry...

I'd like to see Carson run. Although I don't agree with the guy on some things, he's relatively centrist and having a true 'outsider' would be a stark contrast to Hillary. Also having to oppose a black man would fuck liberal's heads all up. lol Worth the price of admission on that basis alone.

His PAC out-paced Hillary's in fund raising for the most recent quarter:

Quote

The National Draft Ben Carson for President Committee reported receipts of roughly $3.4 million in the second quarter of the election cycle, outpacing the well-known Ready for Hillary PAC, which raised just $2.5 million.

He polls well and has good support from the Republican base.

Quote

Ben Carson Wins 2016 Straw Poll Of Conservative Activists

Neurosurgeon Ben Carson defeated a host of well-known Republicans in a weekend straw poll in Colorado of potential 2016 presidential candidates.

Carson, who has been encouraged by some conservatives to run for the White House in 2016, won the Western Conservative Summit straw poll in Denver, the group announced.

Carson is an extreme right winger. He's a smart guy, but he's way out there. He's also a doctor who does not accept evolution, which suggests to me religious nut.

Also, what government experience does he have?

Neurosurgeon, which makes it hard to believe that he believes in intelligent design.

I hate to break it to you but there are many doctors and others with hard science backgrounds who don't think that evolution and some form of intelligent design are necessarily mutually exclusive in all respects. One of my molecular genetics professors was a devoutly religious guy. I'm not a religious guy and have an MS centered in biochemical genetics but I sure wouldn't claim to have all of the answers. In fact, the deeper I got and the more questions I have about it all just being some big ass random set of coincidences.

Some form of intelligent design can take a much more complex and nuanced form than just a Santa-like 'God' sitting up in the clouds. Both also really aren't substantially different in terms of faith on the part of most lay people. Just a matter of who you're listening to. I'd wager that 99% of those who unconditionally accept evolution do so solely on the basis of because somebody told them so versus any real substantive investigation on their part.

The admittedly very few times that I've heard anything from Carson as far as all of that goes he doesn't seem to be that far out there. It's not that he denies evolution but rather there may be something more and it being a matter of faith beyond that. He does at least have some reasoned basis for his beliefs. And if you're going to disqualify people on the basis of some religious faith then that would include both Obama and Hillary btw.

What is wrong with a real moral point north, let science and faiths find their own way. Govt. should not impede either one. Thats the country I WAS BORN IN.

Fair enough, I'm an (essentially) Orthodox Jew who has a bit of a science background. I believe in theistic evolution, or as Francis Collins would call it, BioLogos. I also find it very difficult to believe that all of this is a huge coincidence.

That's true, if you look at stuff like Michael Behe's "irreducible complexity," then yes, there is a huge gap between "Santa-like G-d" and what some ID people think. Again, I'm not an ID person, and I largely consider it pseudoscience. However, I do agree with you that most people accept evolution simply because someone told them it's right. As for me, I came to accept evolution because a) the evidence strongly supports it and b)God of the Gaps is a pretty crappy argument for any sort of higher intelligence.

Please understand that I'm not trying to disqualify people on religious belief. I myself am religious. I believe that evolution is real, but I don't completely buy every single thing that people like Richard Dawkins are trying to sell. When he had the debate with Collins, Dawkins, and Peter Atkins, he said that he doesn't completely buy evolution.

He's very well educated. Not someone I agree with politically, but he's been instrumental in neurosurgery.

The difference between Democrats and Republicans is Republicans say they're going to win elections, Democrats do.
