GOP: The Earth is Only 6,000 Years Old
Posted by: Light Years - Explain That ()
Date: July 19, 2014 11:05PM

Just remember that you're standing on a planet that's evolving
And revolving at nine hundred miles an hour,
That's orbiting at nineteen miles a second, so it's reckoned,
A sun that is the source of all our power.

The sun and you and me and all the stars that we can see
Are moving at a million miles a day
In an outer spiral arm, at forty thousand miles an hour,
Of the galaxy we call the 'Milky Way'.

Our galaxy itself contains a hundred billion stars.
It's a hundred thousand light years side to side.
It bulges in the middle, sixteen thousand light years thick,
But out by us, it's just three thousand light years wide.

We're thirty thousand light years from galactic central point.
We go 'round every two hundred million years,
And our galaxy is only one of millions of billions
In this amazing and expanding universe.

The universe itself keeps on expanding and expanding
In all of the directions it can whizz
As fast as it can go, at the speed of light, you know,
Twelve million miles a minute, and that's the fastest speed there is.

So remember, when you're feeling very small and insecure,
How amazingly unlikely is your birth,

And pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space,
'Cause there's bugger all down here on Earth.

The fallacy of this screed is that, like all anti-Godhadists, it presumes that the universe is a constant and that what we currently observe is the way it always was. While almost no one believes the Earth is only 6000 years old, your deductive reasoning and logic are woefully lacking. Your rhyming skills are adequate but could stand improvement.

Har. 39% of the public believes this. OK, 10000 years old. Still just as ridiculous. And 95% of them vote republican.

Here's a tard:

By Associated Press July 13
ANNAPOLIS, Md. — A candidate for the Anne Arundel County Council has recently donated dinosaur fossils to a creationist museum that believes the creatures were alive less than 5,000 years ago.

The Capital (http://bit.ly/1mLQix3 ) reports Michael Peroutka presented the fossils to the Creation Museum in Petersburg, Kentucky, over the Memorial Day weekend. Peroutka is the Republican nominee in the District 5 council race.

Tax records show Peroutka valued the fossil at $200,000. The museum puts the value at $1 million after a reappraisal.

And probably a tax cheat too.

It's a 30 year old quote from a song in the 1983 Monty Python Movie "The Meaning of Life" you dolt. It is in the sketch called 'Live Organ Transplants.'

It does not presume that the universe is constant or static - if you can read, it clearly says:

"The universe itself keeps on expanding and expanding
In all of the directions it can whizz
As fast as it can go, at the speed of light, you know,
Twelve million miles a minute, and that's the fastest speed there is."

Shall we put the deductive reasoning and logic of Creationist Bible Fairy Tales into some scientific context using proportional measurements of distance and time...

Because dumb rednecks have trouble understanding and dealing with the real world, which is why they vote republican in the first place.

So, post your own stats. What percentage of the US public believes in young earth creationism. I'll wait.

I collect ancient oddities and what not.

A few years ago I purchased an ancient shaman ceremonial bowl that was hand-carved from a solid piece of Jade.

It has been dated to 5,000 years before the Creationist GOP shamans say the Earth was created. That bowl was created by human hand 230+ million years after the dinosaurs roamed the Earth according to Modern Science.

Sure. Or you can just do a search of this site and see that almost everything has already been discussed. No minds changed. Comes back to belief. Belief in the supernatural or belief in suspension of the laws of physics to create the universe you want to believe in. Unfortunately for your side, you can't place your faith in science until scientific truth has to be ignored and then expect to have credibility.

And, if you had a decent level of understanding, you'd understand that believing the universe has "always been expanding" is just the kind fallacy of logic that I was describing. You (or whomever) posted it to make some point. I can understand how you (or whomever) wanting to rely on Monty Python to project scientific truth, accompanying a dubious Subject title no less, might launch into ad hominem attack that your "clever" attempt failed.

believing the universe has "always been expanding" is just the kind fallacy of logic that I was describing

The universe hasn't "always been expanding", except in the sense that "always" is defined as "since the big bang ~13.4 billion years ago". That's when time started too, so it is in that sense correct to say that it's always been expanding.

Actually, there is no logical fallacy in believing that the universe has always existed, whether or not it is expanding or contracting. Aquinas resolved those issues long ago.

I've looked it up. I know what the percentages roughly are. Why don't you look it up.

Here's a link to another poll. Of course, I'm sure they're liberal atheists too:

The poll you just linked to refutes your ridiculous assertion. You just aren't too bright, are you? I bet you don't know the difference between mean temperature and Mac temperature, do you?

It fits with all the available scientific evidence. I suppose I can't say that I know this. That wouldn't be a scientific statement, really. The biblical creation story, on the other hand, fits with none of the available scientific evidence.

So, you believe it. Okay. Believe what you want.

And the big bang is a creation theory btw and it fits perfectly with the Bible's version of the universe being created at a single point in time. Using terms like "none" when stating beliefs and theories is unscientific.

No it's not. And the bible does not say that the universe was created at a single point in time. It states that it was created over six days in a sequence, starting with light.
