More Millennials living in Mom's Basement

Not telling most of you basement-dwelling losers anything that you didn't already know by just looking up, but...

Big jump in number of millennials living with parents reported

More Americans than ever live in multigenerational households, and the number of millennials who live with their parents is rising sharply, according to a study released Thursday.

A record 57 million Americans, or 18.1% of the population, lived in multigenerational arrangements in 2012, according to the Pew Research Center. That's more than double the 28 million people who lived in such households in 1980, the center said.

A multigenerational family is defined as one with two or more generations of adults living together.

The sluggish job market and other factors have propelled the rise in millennials living in their childhood bedrooms.

About 23.6% of people age 25 to 34 live with their parents, grandparents or both, according to Pew. That’s up from 18.7% in 2007, just prior to the global financial crisis, and from 11% in 1980.

For the first time, a larger share of young people live in multigenerational arrangements than of Americans 85 and older.

Just more of Obama's legacy.

More people on welfare
More people on public assistance
More people living in poverty
More people living in the basement
More layoffs
More food stamps
More murders

Yes he will be remembered as quite a president.

Between 1980 and 2007 the number of multigenerational 25 to 34 year olds increased by 7.7%. Between 2007 and now it has increased by 6.9%. So this started happening before Obama. It has clearly accelerated since 2007. It's not very surprising and the causes are not as simple as Obama being elected. Living in the basement isn't the worst fate that could befall someone. It's pretty normal to live in multigenerational situations in most of the world . . . so we're being globalized.

I'm confused, I thought the plan was destruction of family. So, we're being brought closer together? Forced to live together but we hate each other?

Everything is Obama's fault in the minds of some people. Oops...I didn't say something anti-Obama...guess that means I'm a "Libtard".

This is how they do it in Muslim countrys. Easier to keep track of the peasents. It's all in Barry's plan.

Mom lets me live down here for like 350 a month. I have saved up a quarter mil by living in Mom's for the last 8 years. I will be able to retire at 52.

+1

I'm 27, no college education and have almost 30k saved up.

My parents charge me $200 for rent (when they remember to collect it), that includes all utilities with premium cable/internet.

Fuck getting an apartment, its like $1,200 not including cable.

It's good to hear from another happy basement dweller. Lots of guys that I went to college with are busting their asses to make the payments on huge homes and SUV's while having kids and all that stuff. I have an easy-gravy parks and rec job that gets me good health insurance. I drive a used carolla that I paid cash for and I live comfortably in my Mom's basement with no stress whatsoever. This is truly the good life!

Only 89 million full time Americans are working.

If we go by the 1980's math at guessing the unemployment rate then it comes to 26% unemployed.

That means 89 million working americans are supporting 380 million people who are either jobless or stopped looking for work.

DOL has changed unemployment meaning as only those seeking to work.

This logic doesn't work. We don't have a population of 469 million.

I wish I could be as positive about living with Mom as some of the posters. I live in a McBarbie condo in Fairfax with my Mom. Wish I could be appreciative of having a job at Papa John's and being able to save up money, I'm not. I don't wish to compare to others got gang-raped, I'm being raped... Getting raped isn't O-K just because others in the world are being gang-banged.

My neighbor's are these horrid little blankety blank faced snots whose parents spent over $200,000 on college for and bought them their own condos. How dare them look down on me. Think they all have jobs at non-profits, in other words- stealing from the good-hearted to give to talentless spoiled brats on a jobs program.

Am I so insane to believe that while the so-called strongest of society find it their right to be annoyed by their parents on Thanksgiving and Christmas, its extremely annoying to be stuck in Mom's Barbie living room on a daily basis.

Have I been given "freedom" to fuck without love or commitment and to sneak out in the middle of the night to do so? Or is it just a step above or below rape?

^ Sharing a condo with your mom would suck.

My parents have a McMansion so its not quite as bad. I have a private entrance, and my own full bathroom. I can vaporize all the weed I want, and they never smell it.

So the vape thing works pretty good? I still have to sneak out to the shed where we keep the lawn tractor to get funky.

Nearly 28 percent of Asian-American families live with at least two adult generations in the same household, the study found. Vietnamese and Filipinos are most likely to live in multigenerational households, followed by Chinese, Indian, Korean and Japanese families, according to the study’s findings.
