CNN, ABC, Fox News, MSNBC, BBC America, AP are reporting that a plane from Malaysian Airlines has gone down in Ukraine.

I don't get it. I guess the implication is that Russia or the Ukraine shot the plane down. Why would the Ukraine shoot down a plane in Ukranian airspace? Or...why would Russia shoot down the plane; what does that accomplish with respect to their conflict? And why would either one pick a commercial Malaysian plane?

CNN is reporting a "Senior US Official" that they have evidence a missile system in the area was turned on and tracking a target at the time of the crash. Also radar evidence of a heat signature from a missile.

Why their is even a debate about who did it is completely ridiculous in the first place. The "rebels" aka Russian troops not in uniform claim responsibility.
Rebel leader Igor Strelkov acknowledged on his Twitter account that his forces brought down the Malaysian plane with a sophisticated surface-to-air missile, though Kennan Institute Director Matthew Rojansky said it could have been a mistake.
In the Tweet, translated from Russian by CNBC, Strelkov said, "We just shot down this plane—it's lying there somewhere by coal mine 'Progress.' We warned you, don't fly in 'our skies.'"
Then their is this that was intercepted by Ukraine- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnuHxAR01Jo

I just saw the video showing the bodies. I'm infuriated that these people were killed just because some slav piece of shit wants their own country. I want blood. They want war, America should give it to them.

It appears from the leaked audio that the rebels did not intend to bring down a civilian aircraft. Presumably, they thought it was a military plane.
Interestingly, about half of the passengers were Dutch. And tragically, the plane included some of the foremost AIDS researchers in the world on their way to a conference in Melbourne.
