I don't hog hunt in Virginia. I go to WV, Tenn (primarily) and North Carolina. Virginia seems to be trying to preserve and control hogs like deer. I wish Virginia the best of luck on that. Give them two years and Virginia will realize what Tenn, NC, Florida, WV and Texas know. A sow will give birth to bunch hoglets every 6 months and eat a couple of them.
Any caliber can bring down a hog with a well place shot below the ear and if you hit the hog any anywhere else, you're are chasing him. Hell they even use bow and spear (crazy up personal) hunt them.
An Ar15 is a light and excellent gun, when you trudging in those thick bushes with a bunch clothing on to protect from the bees, ticks and snakes. I think 5.56 is the most used round for hog hunting. XM855 penetrates better than XM193 at longer range (200 - 300 yrds) but bounces off trees and bushes. The Ar10 with a XM80 don't bounce off trees and bushes but is great out to 400 yrds, but heavy. Most of hog engagements will less than 100 yds in bushes.
If you want some pictures, go out your self and take them, I don't have time for that.
For the law.
