17-Year Cicadas are back in about a month.

Many residents in Virginia, West Virginia and a handful of communities in North Carolina should prepare themselves for what may amount to hundreds of millions of cicadas this year. Scientists say Brood IX of the 17-year periodical cicadas of eastern North America are set to emerge from the earth this spring.

Though there are annual cicadas which emerge every year, it is important for Appalachian residents to note that in addition to the annual cicadas, there are at least 23 different broods in the United States, whose life cycles have them emerging either every 13 years or every 17 years all at once; from time to time these broods can even overlap and even share territory.

So Trump has brought us a massive virus outbreak with bodies piling up in the street, a catastrophic economic meltdown with rampant unemployment, and for icing on the cake, a plague of locusts. It wouldn't be a stretch to call Trump's first term Biblical.

These things are good eating!

Roast at 375 degrees for approximately 15-20 minutes, or until the cicadas start to turn brown and are thoroughly dried out. Stir together sugar, cinnamon, salt, and milk in a medium saucepan. Cook over medium-high heat for eight minutes, or until the mixture reaches the soft ball stage at 236°F. Spread mixture over the cicadas ans allow them to cool about 10 minutes before serving.

Cicada's and other insect protein options might be all we have in a while after the cans of Spam run out. I'm scared and don't want to eat bugs.

This year's emergence will include annual cicadas as well as Brood IX periodical cicadas. Areas that will experience these cicadas are North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia.
