I mean no racism, curious about black culture

I came from France years ago. Am trying to make more friends of different backgrounds. Yet I must ask and I don’t mean any meanness, why do American black people dance when there’s no music or simulate shooting a basketball when no hoop is around? Again I’m curious and it’s out of intellectual curiosity and respect not racism. Thanks!
