AARP finds that older people could pay as much as $16,174 more per year for health coverage under the Republican bill to repeal ObamaCare

A new study from the AARP finds that older people could pay as much as $16,174 more per year for health coverage under the Republican bill to repeal ObamaCare sponsored by Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Bill Cassidy (R-La.).

The bill “threatens to make health care unaffordable and inaccessible for millions of older Americans,” AARP, which opposes the measure, writes in the report.

The study finds that on average nationwide, a 60-year-old making $25,000 per year would have to pay as much as $16,174 more per year for health insurance. That is a result of the possible elimination of two kinds of ObamaCare subsidies, which help people afford their premiums and out of pocket costs.

makes sense that health coverage for older people would be a lot more expensive.

A 60-year-old making $25,000 per year in Alaska would have to pay as much as $31,790 more per year, and in Arizona, the person would have to pay $22,074 more, according to the AARP study.

how someone making 25k per year can afford 31k more a year for healthcare sounds unlikely

So, to be clear, to you it 'makes sense' that a 60 year old earning just $25,000 per year should pay over $31,000 per year on health insurance. That makes sense?

Is that what Trump is all about?

Keep in mind, the AARP can't be trusted. After all, they did their best to lobby for the ACA in the first place. Look how expensive it turned out to be.

In other words, since we don't really have enough details to do a real analysis in a matter of days, we'll just make up how we want this 'study' to turn out and make assumptions to fit and frame it around the worst possible result and present it as "as much as."

The AARP is bought and paid for by Soros' Open Society. They can't be trusted to verify that water is wet.

If at 60 you haven't saved enough to retire with health care costs being part of that equation then this discussion is about cutting off the people that have never held a job for any length of time. These type of people are the homeless street wonderers that sleep on grates in the winter and welfare recipients. They will simply go to hospitals when they are sick get the care they need and never pay a dime for it. Much the same as now. This population also includes the immigrant workers from south of the border that have come to fill the demand for cheap labor created by small business owners and Americans to fucking lazy to cut their own grass, change their own sheets or watch their own kids. Our own president employees thousands of these types.

Do the math, that's at least $1347 a month and u claim 16174 more than others how much more cuz then u gotta add to the $1347 a month, makes no sense.

To your point - you have no idea if the AARP statement is a 'best case' or a 'worst case' So why vote on a bill with so much impact on the economy and our people without knowing shit-all about it? Why is that? How does that make any sense at all?

Fucking GOP cowards.

Elitist out of touch nonsense. Lots of people have homes and lives and simply go without healthcare. Medical bills are the biggest cause of US bankruptcies. We arent talking about indigents here.

Going to the hospital to get care for free at the cost of losing everything you own is a bad deal for the elderly and for paying, insured customers. We need a solution for everyone. Time for single payer.

Are your parents still alive?

We need to get the power of the cost out of the provider's hands and into the realm of reality. You really going to watch your mother living on a fixed income suffer just because she's old? The fuck is wrong with you? Are you a jug head?

Old people that dont have more than 10 million in the bank are disgusting - let them die, their lives were a waste and they are an expensive drain on those of us that will have that much money when we retire.

Be Strong, Be American.

Government genocide to get everyone killed off faster after making them retire early. That's how they intend to save the system now that most people are living longer and living healthier lives, and having fewer babies..

They have to make room for all the new immigrants they want to come in and take all the new tech type jobs that Americans are turning their noses up at because it's too much work and education to spend to get them. They can;t get the older folks to go back and learn a new career, so doing it through big pharma hazmat drugs and bankrupting the old folks sooner is the way they want to go.

You mean like they did with Obamacare?

Obviously it's a worst case. You know that just from the source and how it's presented with the "as much as" bs. Just like you know that anyone quoting prices "from $_____" are bs'ing you.

Since when is AARP and evil empire. Since when are the elderly the enemy of Conservatives and the GOP. I thought our seniors were a key part of the party. Guess not anymore. Except for white supremacists who exactly is the GOP for?

OP STFU and learn to play golf. It would be better use of your time. Obamacare is just as dead as the GOP efforts. Obamacare is just a dead system and the Dems are too fucking stupid and stubborn to realize it.

Gerry is correct. AARP lobbied hard to support ACA because they knew they would make billions on selling supplemental insurance. They dont give shit about the elderly, only about the dollar.
