How do you figure Republicans held the Virginia Senate? Democrats won 21 out of 40 seats. In most books that gives the Democrats a majority. Even if 1 seat somehow went back to the Republicans the Virginia Democratic Lt. Gov. is the tie breaker.

On several counts:
1. Dems will now control Senate in Virginia by 21-19
2. Assuming you are referring to Gov. Northam, you cannot vote him out in 21, he cannot run (term limits).
Other than that OP has everything exactly perfect. Just like Trump's call to Ukraine.

It isn't a Republican lead in the Senate as OP stated, but Dems only lead there with a 1 vote margin and in the house with a 6 vote margin. Hardly the "sweeping victory" that the news outlets were reporting. Not to mention they only won because of all the Gerrymandering they did. Had they not done that, they might not even have flipped the house, let alone the senate seat. Democrats play dirty.

Mikey Bloomberg put more money into Virginia ($2.5 million) than the entire republican party did. The GOP establishment has abandoned Virginia. They did the same thing to the Cooch back in 2013. Terry McAweful was plowing the airwaves for 45 straight days with over $25 million for the democrat party while the Cooch got nothing from the pubes. He couldn't punch back during the government shutdown that October and mcAweful squeaked out a victory with the help of the libertarian candidate the he (McAweful) funded.

Plus it was a Republican controlled House that drew most of the current House district boundaries in 2011. All that was swept away in just two elections. So the Democrats only flipped a few House seats in 2019. The Republicans flipped just three to begin their period of control.

Doesn't mean anything. Virginia was always a moderate to center right state. It doesn't work that way unless they keep having illegals vote in elections. 12 sherrifs have come forward saying they will not comply with any gun laws, and even some Virginia Democrats had said they will not vote for more gun laws. So many counties in Virginia will not comply with the new laws, except maybe NOVA and Richmond and few others. There will probably be a Civil War if that happens.
