Definitely Mac. I was ALWAYS a PC supporter up until about a year and a half ago when I purchased my very first Mac, a MacBook. I love it, and will never buy a PC again. Apple is great.

My first computer was a Macintosh. Everything after that has been PC all the way. I built the one I'm using now. PC's offer so much more freedom...oh yeah and you can right-click.

You can right-click on a mac too.

I support both. I prefer using a mac at home, but when I ran a help desk I fully supported windows in a work environment.

I used to love Apple and hated Microsoft. I've owned at least 3 Macs. But as MS got better and better at copying apple, and Apple got more popular, the things I hated about MS started to show up at Apple: The all knowing, all controlling mega-corp. Both of them are into DRM, and have become two faces of the same beast.

Today I much prefer Linux over Apple or Microsoft. With the exception of playing games (which you probably want a Microsoft PC for), Linux is great. I love the simple things I can 'just do' with Ubuntu for example. Want to burn a CD image? Just right-click and chose "burn to CD". Want to mount a CD image, same thing....right-click. Want to rip a dvd...you can do that..etc etc...etc...

Freedom has its advantages.

The only reason I spend the money to get a Mac instead of a Windows box is because I don't want to deal with all the viruses and shit.

Nothing. He, like all Apple enthusiasts are arrogant pricks who feel entitled to do whatever they want to praise their overpriced and toylike systems.

Windows 7 is very nice, Mac OsX is good too. The best thing about apple is the hardware design. Very solid laptops and well configured desktops. More expsensive, but I think it is worth the cash.

PS: the only reason there are not more worms and malware for OsX is Mac has 7 percent market share. Not much of a target.

7 percent of all the computers in the world is an enormous target. Most Mac users don't run antivirus, so if it was that easy to make a virus, it would happen.

No it isn't. Viruses, scams, etc. all claim a very small percent of their victims. Not everyone clicks on the link, downloads the infected PDF, whatever.

Given that, lets say your virus will infect 1% of the total user population of your target OS.

Lets say there are 1,000,000,000 total computers in the world and that 93% are running Windows with the other 7% running some version of Apple's OS. Yes, I'm leaving out Linux. It's an example. Don't whine about it.

That means there are 930,000,000 computers running Windows and the other 70,000,000 are running some version of Apple's OS.

1% of Windows = 9,300,000
1% of Apple = 700,000

If you're going to write a program to do something nasty, steal information (CC#s, etc.), you're going to want the biggest return for your time. With that in mind, you're going to skip attacking any Apple system simply because you're losing out on MILLIONS of potential targets. Further, there is more information out there on Windows vulnerabilities because there are more people trying to attack those systems. There are more pre-written attacks as well.

If you write something for Apple you're going to have to do most/all of the work yourself. This increases the time it takes to write the same program, reducing the payoff.

I hate Windows, but I will take it over MAC. Apple ties their development rights up in all sorts of royalty payments, licensing fees and the like, which is why very few games or other software is developed for the platform. Most software that is put out for the MAC is also very expensive. When you limit the market you can make stupid profits from sales. The only reason their pricing is even CLOSE to the price of PCs - by close meaning at least 1.5 times the cost for a comparable machine - is because they have to price close to the PC to be realistic.

I would take linux over both of them if they came up with a decent free Windows emulator that would run newer Windows games.

MACs are an elitist toy. Give them kudos for having excellent and easy to use graphics capabilities for science interfaces and graphics publishing.

PC for business applications. Most every company uses Excel, Word and Outlook for business apps. Best to run those on the native OS.

Mac if you want to do artist or graphic design work. There are Mac viruses also so don't buy that no virus myth. You won't see a blue screen of death with a Mac, your program just won't do something or the Mac will reboot. Also with Mac you are going to find that a lot of standard software that people your working with have are not going to run on a Mac well. GotoMeeting didn't work on Mac's for the first two years.

I'd go with a PC with Windows 7 and loads of memory, more than 4gigs.

Yeah, I will give a high positive mark for Windows 7 - it is better than usual for them.

it's funny because a "PC" and a "MAC" are the same hardware. so, the question should be "Windows or OSX?" to which my response is "neither, i use Linux."

uphill? what am i going against? i use (debian) linux because it's stable, has applications that unify tasks (e.g. rar, zip, ark, 7z all open with one application), a unified installation system, it's free and doesnt try treat you like an invalid nor require extensive knowledge.

btw, my current uptime is over 30 days (had a power outage) and previously was a few month (RAM upgrade). that is stability.

so, if having a superior system is skating uphill, then i'm guilty.

What's your point? I've had Vista running for half a year without problems. I've had Win 7 running from MSDN since July without problems.

Are you serious? rar, zip, ark, and 7z all in one? That's your example? So does Windows. It's called Peazip and is a free download from sourceforge. Or you could use IZArc, ZigZag, and others.

But go ahead. Enjoy your toy OS. I'm sure it's quite cute.

good to hear to newer kernels are more stable.

yes, an example of a unified task program, not every instance of unified task programs. i was impressed by IZArc (support is much better than a year ago) but trust me, there are more archive formats supported with a single app on linux. anyway, that's just a single example.

i will... while you defrag your drive and are busy disinfecting your computer from spyware/malware. btw, how about that unified [un]installation system that doesnt leave garbage behind?

Garage left behind is not a Windows problem, it's a Windows programmer problem. Some Linux programs have the same problem. That's just sloppy programming in general.

Don't fool yourself, there is plenty of malware and spyware for Linux too. But, who would want to write malware and spyware for Linux? Windows has a much larger base install by far and files on the windows OS have stuff worth stealing.

As for tars. rar, zip 7z etc... I use 7zip and it works fine for just about all archive formats.

you clearly dont understand that debian and ubuntu (i know you love ubunutu!) linux have a packaging system that prevents such lameness. windows on the other hand has no unified [un]installation whatsoever.

it just occurred to me... did you look over every line of 7zip? it's open source so you are either a hypocrite or paranoid. which is it? :D

gerrymanderer2 (OP) posts several lies on ffu daily - many\.10think he's a fx co gov worker who is getting paid to do it for false DNC democrat "advertising". he floods ffu with useless posts to bump down major news, posts fecal matter, mutilated bodies, child porn, foreign drug ads and sneaker ads, tells people to kill themselves and government should seize them and put them on psych pills in prison - decided by democrat gov of course, promotes kangaroo courthouse trials, gives anti-religious rants, gives satanic ritual rants, posts black males with large dicks on white young females, portends white low birth rate and fall of USA, food tampering/poisoning, and anything possible to DEMORALIZE white people on ffu. (perhaps a chinese prisoner or isis member - but definitely knowledgeable of fx co gov from the inside at times). the website operator has told him "not to post or return" which are still posted - not removed, by the sysop: not because of a political leaning but for continual illegal and gross spam along with messages that are only to demoralize if not kill others. he/she plays at financial terrorism as well: continuall reporting false financial data, and fake emergency please from (fake members of the community he makes up)

G2 HAS BEEN POSTING ANTI-APPLE ADS ON FFU FOR SEVERAL YEARS - AND FOR MOST OF THOSE YEARS SIMPLY LYING ON FACTS NOT SIMPLE MIS-CONCEPTIONS

i doubt that certified admin statement in every way possible - a linux hacker does not make a unix admin - and way back time machine when - unix certifications WERE NOT IN EXISTENCE - WERE NOT SOLD BY ANYONE - not for computer work - didn't happen. even cisco certification didn't start until the late 90's - and microsoft certification hadn't even been heard of then.

there was no one unix and there was no unix certification in the clinton years: but Clinton took over all college with SWEEPING GOVERNMENT AID GOVERNMENT CONTROL policies - and all of the sudden gov workers were getting free classes and certifiying each other. it was a trick meant to benefit certain people in a certain generation who had no degree: not your generation OP
