I was trying to post the best version but you can't embed it. But, yeah, definitely one of the best.

The funny thing about the SWAT credits is that back in the 1970s a wah-wah pedal and horn section could even make what is essentially a UPS delivery truck look cool.

Room 222? Did you know the exteriors were originally filmed at Los Angeles High School (called Walt Whitman High in the program), and the interiors were filmed at both Walter Reed Junior High in North Hollywood, and Hamilton High in West L.A. Los Angeles High was considered unsafe after the earthquake of 1971, and dismantled. All that is left of it is a soccer field where the baseball diamond once stood.

By the way, for those Southern California nostalgia buffs, Karen Valentine is getting off the old RTD bus.

That's too bad. That was a cool looking high school.

Oh, and Walter Reed Jr. High is where the West Wing filmed Jimmy Smitts' announcement he was running for President. Also, John McCain mistakenly had a huge photo of Walter Reed Jr. High on the backdrop of his acceptance speech when he referenced Walter Reed Medial Center. OOPS!

That was always the dumbest thing. The A-Team was perpetually on the run from the law, yet they rode around in the most conspicuous looking vehicle possible.

When I was a kid it was like the *GREATEST* show of all time. But if you ever try to watch it now, it's absolutely ridiculous. Now I understand why my Dad used to hate it so much.

And Jack Lord used to drive a black Lincoln Mercury on Hawaii five-0 that was given to them by Ford. From what I understand, he hated the black cars because, on the set, when he had to get in it, start it up, and drive away, it was 110 degrees inside. Mr. Lord had them write into the script at the end of the run that the Mercury needs to be destroyed- and the writers wrote in a car explosion scene!

The cool thing about that show is I remembered they would use squibs in the gun battles, which was unusual for TV shows at the time. They would shoot a guy and blow a couple of holes in him. That was back when the networks had "family hour" and they actually treated the shows "outside of family hour" like adults were watching.

Hawaii Five-O is one of the best shows of all time, IMO. I used to watch it in syndication regularly when I was younger, and it seriously was a GREAT cop show. The plots were always intriguing and the main characters were fucking cool. It never delved into that cerebral personal-problem shit like most shows do in an attempt to make characters seem "human". Five-O's main characters were just badass. It was also great that some of the main enemies they fought were evil communist agents from China. That element was unique. It was almost like a comic book, where good guys are just good, and the bad guys are mysterious and evil.

Great stuff. I almost bought the DVD's awhile back, and I might have to do that now.

I can remember as a kid visiting New Zealand, when Hawaii five -0 started running there, all those kiwis thought the H-50 theme was the American national anthem.

What's funny is they replaced the black Mercury with a black Lincoln Continental

Yeah, that show was entertaining, but considering they were a supposedly crack military team, they couldn't hit shit when they were shooting at the bad guys. With all the "bullets" spent on that show, the most serious injury was probably someone getting shot in the arm.

Even when I was a kid I thought that aspect was funny. They'd shoot grenades at a big rig doing 80 MPH, it would explode and then careen off an overpass upside-down, and the next scene would show the driver getting out of truck wincing in pain, but generally unharmed. That shit was great.

Actually, tt was replaced by a black 1974 Marquis Brougham 4-door hardtop, which was also used to drive Mr. Lord from his home to the studio.

My dad grew up during the Depression and served in WWII. He is a lot like Archie Bunker. The racist remarks are more out of ignorance than hate or spite.

But it was still black. Makes no sense if Lord didn't like the heat from the original black Mercury.

I'm not sure what would be defined as "original," but this is the version I remember from the bulk of the seasons when I was growing up.

The Welcome Back Kotter intro reminds me of what a run-down shithole New York was back in the 70s.

Kind of like how San Francisco once had "mean streets"....

Worst show? I'd have say the worst of all time was "Cop Rock". So bad, it's amazing someone produced it.

I'd post the opening theme, but it would probably be the first time any of us have ever actually seen it.
