The people we like to call "hillbillies" and "white trash" also come from an area where there is the lowest crime rate in the nation
By contrast, the highest crime rates from Urban areas with large Negro populations. Go figure...

Poor whites are still not as filthy as poor blacks. They have some resepct and a better work ethic. The ones that work in the coal mines are hard working. They are family men and don't run off leaving their "baby mama" to take care of illigeimate children.

Why is any of that surprising? An area where families are taught morals, ethics, values, empathy and community. There is very little liberal influence in Appalachia. Liberalism is the root of all evil.

The West Virginia Coal Wars (1920–21), also known as the Mine Wars, arose out of a dispute between coal companies and miners.

I'd also like to point out that many "Hillbillies" leave the area to escape underemployment/unemployment. Roughly 75% of the people who live in southern Ohio have deep roots in Kentucky, Tennessee, and West Virginia. Chicago, Detroit, and even Baltimore have plenty of Hill folks too. There's no ball and chain around your foot if you have ambition. We even got lots of Hillbillies right hyear in Warshington too. Check out the Bluegrass programming on WAMU 105.5 FM for the best in Bluegrass.

There are lot of misconceptions about Southern Appalachia in particular. I have spent quite a time in the region around Roanoke, Southwest Virginia, Asheville, NC, and Knoxville, TN. What do I find? Very attractive and intelligent people and one of the most beautiful scenic spots on God's green earth. The hill folk women are suprisingly attractive, have all their teeth. The super models we see in New York aren't from New York or even DC. They are from small little mountain towns like Dolly Parton . God's green apples .
