It was our military and civilian command at its best and its worst at the same time. It's a shame so many people died (including Somalis) for absolutely nothing.

There weren't any Marines there at that time. All the fighting was done by Army Rangers and Delta Force troops.

Marines were there before the battle but rotated out, and after the battle when US troops withdrew the only Marines present were afloat offshore standing by in case they were needed.

You add or bring nothing good to this country. Say to your face, we americans don't have time to talk to shit.

Out of all the places my military career took me, Somalia was BY FAR the biggest shit hole of them all. I can't think of a better place to deploy a tactical nuclear device or a couple of well placed daisy cutters.....

Somalia = anarchy at its finest. Been without any centralised government for decades. You want a country with no taxation, no government oversight/regulation, etc....visit Somalia.

As for Americans dying there...we never should have been there in the first place, tis ashame. Just as with Iraq...all those Americans have died for nothing.

There's a lot of room between the oppressive euro-style socialism you fawn for Obama to impose and the lawlessness of Somalia.

It's a cold rainy day just as you like, go get your tea, play some shitty Big Audio Dynamite and STFU about America, you parasitic douche wand.

I never understand this reasoning. If you hate a place, just don't go there. Nuking it isn't going to help those who live there.

But I guess we have a problem with not going anywhere, which is why we are stuck in shitholes like Somalia, and of course Iraw, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.

I was there that faithful day. I was with C. Co. 1/87 INF 3rd Platoon 10th MTN DIV. We were attached with 2/14. One of the above photos is of a Humvee with some Delta guys on the back taken after the battle. The Humvee had Military Police on it and I had made stencils to cover it up and show our unit. I was wounded in the neck just before we started to extract with the convey of Pakastani APC's. I was lucky ,the bullet went through and through. Not all were lucky that day.

Very similar thing just happened in Afghanistan with the Rangers being pinned down after a raid on a meeting of 8 Taliban/insurgents. The big story is the RPG taking down the helicopter that carried them and Seal Team 6.

Didnt troops there request armor be delivered there prior to this but Clinton did not want to give the appearence of ESCALATION of the operation??. Another politician making the rules thousands of miles away while grunts pay the price. Unfortunately not much has changed in the last 45 years.

I admit it's painful to watch them starve slowly, so lets just nuke that huge desert ghetto, and put them out of our misery.

Facts: At 7 p.m. on Sept. 14, Army Maj. Gen. Thomas M. Montgomery, the American commander in Somalia, asked for tanks and armored vehicles "at the earliest feasible date." "I believe that U.S. forces are at risk without it,"

On Sept. 23, Clinton Defense Secretary Les Aspin turned down Montgomery's request. Ten days later, on Oct. 3, Somali militiamen killed 18 Americans who were trapped, in part for lack of armor, under enemy fire.

Clinton was never held fully accountable for this debacle.
