This is true. There is so much negativity associated with sales, housing and 534 acounted for investigations of corruption that investors do not want to move. They really need to clamp down on these ones who are corrupting or no one in the world will want to put there monetary trust in the United States. Not that it does not go on everywhere else, but the worlds focus seems to be mainly on us.

Understood, but again you focused right back on the negativity, we have to start somewhere and if it takes a spark to get a pilot light, and then,, flame lets focus on that

Unemployment is a lagging indicator. Last month existing home sales improved despite expectations and retail sales are up a bit this month. If that could continue for a few more months, it could be a sign that the recession has found a floor, which could start to encourage investment again.

That's true that unemployment results are typically anywhere from 6-12 months delayed from the effects of housing and retail data.

All I know is that I switched the asset allocation in my brokerage account and 401(k) on Monday from 40% MM, 20% Bonds; 40% Balanced Equities (diversified as 30-25-20-25 for each Large, Mid, Small, and Foreign funds) to 15% MM, 15% Bonds, 70% Balanced Equities. I believe the floor is here and there are many (smart) bargains to be made. The credit markets should start up in Q2, albeit with better UW criteria and LL reserves this time around.

What about the mega stimulus bill - still necessary? Or would we cycle out of this anyway?

It's absolutely necessary in this environment. No industry group needs it more than the credit markets. They are tied into EVERYTHING.

it's a cycle. if done _properly_, this bill could help. i just hope our leaders know wtf they are doing but if the past is an indicator, they dont.

You do realize that the same people who fucked us up are the same people we're expecting to fix it, right?

yes it's all cyclical....of course how long or deep the cycle is can vary greatly. I guess if you believe that botha republican and democratic administration are lying thru their teeth...that the non-government experts all dont know their ass from their elbow you could say just wait to come out of it naturally. Of course here in the beltway we live in a very special world...virtually everyone is either directly or indirectly dependent on govt spending all the time....god forbid we spread it outside that circle.
