Home to some huge and historic events, some set attendance records. Wrestlemania, the Who, Led Zep, the Pope. This place was as big as they come. same turf Barry Sanders used to tear up, now it's a pathetic ghost town.

they built brand new stadiums for the Lions and Tigers about ten years ago, who cares about the silverdome? few cities can accommodate enough franchises to keep 3 big stadiums in business.

This is what happens when niggers run a city and it's finances. They only know how to destroy shit, not make it better. Something once great now looks like the ghetto.

Pontiac isn't ghetto, it's not even IN Detroit. Detroit actually did the right thing and built Ford Field right near downtown, bringing the Lions back into the city of Detroit. It's a better facility and not all the way the hell out in the burbs. Whatever good happened at the Silverdome anyway, the Lions never even made it to a Super Bowl.

Pontiac is considered part of metro Detriot. Top center of map. And youve never been there if you dont think it's the ghetto.

Yeah and Reston is considered part of Metro Washington, but that don't mean it's in the city.

Dumbshit... He bought the place for around $500K (Ralph was close).

We don't know what condition he bought it in, do we?

We both understand that the buyer is probably a speculator and not interested in anything but a tear down, right?

Sold at a huge loss.

there's no reason for anyone to be upkeeping the place. no one's used it and 2 new stadiums were built, it's not like the Detroit market is big enough to attract a second pro football team.

Drove by the Silverdome on my last trip up to MI and was shocked to see how dilapidated it was. I know it had been used in the last few years for car shows, conferences, etc... Being so close to the wealthier parts of the Detroit metro area (Rochester hills, Troy, and Auburn Hills) I'm surprised it turned to shit so quick.

If anyone thinks this will be limited to only Detroit, you are not paying attention. Detroit is just the testing ground to see how Americans will handle this... or should we say, a testing grounds for how "THEY" will handle Americans when this shit gets worse and worse and worse.... as things are.

I dont recall the last time things were getting better for this country.

This whole thread is stupid, it's pretty easy to explanation why the place is falling down:

TWO new stadiums were built a little more than ten years ago, and there's no longer a use for the place. No one's going to spend money to upkeep and fix shit because the place hasn't had a useful purpose in over a decade.

If Pontiac was a vibrant city that wasn't bleeding residents, just maybe this once great structure (or at least the land it's on) may be cared for and worth something...

But Pontiac is not a vibrant city, it's a shit hole.. GM does't make even Pontiacs anymore in fact, but that doesn't matter does it? Ypu guys drive Kia's and have iPods, life's great!

Yes. The large exodus of population caused GM to stop making Pontiacs, which made the city less vibrant, causing the Silverdome roof to collapse.

No dummy...

But it did probably contribute to the neglect...

I bet you something happens to the Astrodome (or property) lon, long before the Silverdome.

For you, Nutty, it's all about blaming.

The SilverDome outlived its usefulness, plain & simple. Most often when this happens, the stadium or arena is simply torn down. The SilverDome was not, and so you have found photos of dilapidation that you can blame on Pontiac, MI.

Congratulations, you're an asshat.

Houston's a much bigger city with a much better economy, no doubt about that. They still don't have an NHL team though.

Houston's actually pretty crummy, maybe not at the Detroit level, but it's got a lot of dilapidated overgrown neighborhoods. It's actually pretty awful unless you're right near downtown or out in the ritzy suburbs.

Hmmmmm.... Why don't they tear it down and build some "a new townhome community from the high $400,000's"???

I'm sure a lot of people want to move to Pontiac, Michigan. It's booming up there!

Or maybe get it in the Historic register??? Turn it into an arts center??

"The Silverdome is a unique and eclectic center for Pontiac artists and craftsmen to display their work! Come and join us in the up and coming neighborhood of Pontiac!"

NO.

NO.

NO.

This will never happen. The structure and the land will rot. If the buyer is lucky he can sell it to the city.

It's worthless as are the majority of your thoughts and ideas.

Historic register? For what? Maybe they could put up a plaque that says "On this spot in 1982 the Detroit Lions finished 4-12 for the season and were tied for the most turnovers".

+1 Like that idea....

I'm joking of course, they'll never build a decent housing community or do a Lorton workhouse type project their...

...Cause it's PONTIAC!
