Man with gun causes scare during children’s baseball game

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. —

Parents at a Forysth County park abruptly stopped a children's baseball game after growing suspicions of the behavior of a man carrying a gun in a waist holster Tuesday night.

"He's just walking around [saying] 'See my gun? Look, I got a gun and there's nothing you can do about it.' He knew he was frightening people. He knew exactly what he was doing," said parent Karen Rabb.

Rabb told Channel 2’s Tom Regan the parents grew so alarmed that they brought the game to a halt when the man declined a request that he leave a parking lot overlooking the baseball field.

“He scared people to the point where we stopped the game, took the kids out of the dugout and behind the dugout, and kind of hunkered down,” Rabb said.

Park users flooded 911 with 22 calls about the man. Forysth County deputies questioned the man, and found that he had a permit for the handgun. Authorities said since the man made no verbal threats or gestures, they could neither arrest him nor ask him to leave the park.

Another parent questioned what point the man was trying to prove.

"Why would anyone be walking around a public park, with a lot of children and parents and people here playing baseball, and he's walking around with a gun? I don't think the parents would have been nervous had he just had the gun in his holster and was just watching the game," said parent Paris Horton.

Rabb's 6-year-old son Ethan was playing at the time and later expressed concern to his mother.

"When I was reading my son's story last night, he turned to me and said 'Mommy, did that man want to kill me?'" said Rabb.

The Forsyth County sheriff said he didn't believe the parents and children were in any danger and that parks are constantly patrolled. He said while the man was within his rights to carry the gun, his conduct was inappropriate.

"We support the constitutional right to bear arms. We will not tolerate bad behavior," said Forsyth Sheriff Duane Piper.

The director of Georgia Carry, a gun rights and lobbying organization, also questioned what the man was trying to do.

"There's a right and a wrong way to exercise your right. This is not the right way," said Georgia Carry Executive Director Jerry Henry.

Rabb said she, too, is a gun rights advocate.

"I own a gun. I have no problems with the Second Amendment. But they do not belong in a parking lot where we have children everywhere. If you want to make a statement, go to the Capitol," said Rabb.

How sad it is the fear liberals have instilled in the population to make them fearful of what should be common practice. Police carry guns and nobody freaks out. Why is that? More people need to open carry. Liberalism is killing America.

I grew up in a town in the midwest where it wasn't unusual at all to
see people carrying guns in public. Guess those folks in Georgia just
need to get used to it. The article didn't mention which part of
Forsyth County this occurred but I'm willing to bet it was a glitzy
Atlanta burb infested with Yankee vermin.

It would be reasonable to expect a gun toting citizen to behave sanely and not act like a child. VA expects it's citizens to be adults. I don't support this moron's right to open carry.

Sounds similar to the lanti-2nd Amendment clowns who join the NRA thinking they're going to turn it around but not realizing that under the terms of membership they can be booted out if they go public.

Either the parents embellished the story to the police and to the media, or (conspiracy theory) it was a false flag operation by an anti-gun group.

With freedom comes responsibility. This guy brandishing at the park has got the emotional maturity of 10 year old. What a dipshit. I support the right to bear arms for mature responsible adults, not for ignorant assholes who act like children. A good sober adult with a gun is an asset, an over compensating retard yahooing it up is a major liability.

You have to ask yourselves, why didn't the sheriff arrest him? At least for disturbing the peace? Well, because as the sheriff pointed out, the guy did nothing wrong.

First off, the guy was just walking around. He never said anything about "see my gun" that was the person's (or rather, editor's) perspective of what his intentions were. Hence the very clever sentence editing ""He's just walking around [saying]..."

That "saying" was in brackets because, the person didn't actaully say that. The editors put that in there for effect.

You can see in this story, that the real issue is that the anti-gun parents scared their own children. Their kids probably wouldn't have ever noticed.

You can also hear a caller say "he lifted up his shirt to show me he had a gun" but in the photo, you can clearly see the guy had his shirt tucked in.

Nothing but anti-gun hysterics and an all too willing media to run with it.

And BTW, this guy could have done the same thing last year (he had a permit). The new gun law had zero effect here.

The gun control crowd's reaction to Newtown was an example of them using hysteria to push their agenda. This guy is just an idiot, plain and simple.
