Why do I get bored with stuff so easily? How to stay interested?

I know the term "familiarity breeds contempt". It isn't really contempt, more just boredom. No matter what subject we are talking about. Getting to know new people, dating, buying things, upgrading things, obsessing over things, etc. I just get bored and tired of things. What looked so cool when I conqueored it now looks boring. What is up with that? I want to know how to make myself excited about on-going projects, and stay excited.
