Turns out that Bundy's claims of ancestors grazing rights are lies
Posted by: lieingrightwing ()

LAS VEGAS -- It has been widely reported that Cliven Bundy’s family claims to have ranched in the Bunkerville area since the 1870s even though a federal judge held a different view of Bundy’s history.
Bundy repeated a similar claim Thursday when he told TheBlaze website: “My family has preemptive, adjudicated livestock water rights filed with the state of Nevada. They were established in 1877 when the first pioneers entered the valley. Among those first pioneers were my grandparents from my mother’s side. My father either bought or inherited his Nevada state livestock water rights and I, in turn, have done the same.”

Contrast that with the 1998 opinion from U.S. District Judge Johnnie Rawlinson in a case where it was determined Bundy wouldn’t be allowed to use federal land for his cattle because of failure to pay grazing fees to the Bureau of Land Management. Rawlinson wrote that it wasn’t until roughly 1954 that “Bundy or his father or both have grazed livestock on public lands owned by the United States and administered by the BLM.”

Clark County Recorder documents show the 160-acre Bunkerville ranch Bundy calls home was purchased by his parents, David and Bodel Bundy, from Raoul and Ruth Leavitt on Jan. 5, 1948. The purchase included the transfer to the Bundys of certain water rights, including water from the nearby Virgin River. Cliven Bundy was born in 1946.

Land Deed - showing sale of ranch to Cliven Bundy's parents

Although no Bundys lived in Bunkerville in 1930 or 1940, according to Census records for those years, Cliven Bundy’s mother Bodel and her parents, John and Christena Jensen, lived in neighboring Mesquite in the early 20th Century.

1940 Mesquite Census - showing Jensen family information
Census records from 1930 indicate that John was a Mesquite farmer originally from Utah whose parents were from Denmark. Those records state the farm was near Main Street and a bridge over the Virgin River.

Separate records from the website FamilySearch, which is sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, indicate that Christena Jensen was born in Nevada in 1901 and that Bodel Jensen was born in Nevada in 1924. Christena Jensen’s parents originally were from Utah. This is the side of the family where Cliven Bundy claims long-standing livestock water rights.

Federal grazing districts were established with passage by Congress of the Taylor Grazing Act of 1934. The Las Vegas area grazing district was established Nov. 3, 1936. The Bureau of Land Management was formed in 1946, the year Cliven Bundy was born.

County records show the earliest construction on Bundy’s ranch was in 1951. The land is zoned rural open land. Since 1994 the ranch has been jointly owned by the David A. and Bodel Bundy Trust and the Bundy Revocable Trust.

Census records show that Cliven Bundy’s paternal great-grandfather, Illinois native Abraham Bundy, lived in Littlefield Village in Mohave County, Ariz., as early as 1900. Abraham Bundy was credited in 1916 with establishment in Mohave County of Bundyville, otherwise known as Mt. Trumbull, according to a history of the Arizona Strip on the Northern Arizona University website.

1900 Arizona Census - showing Bundy family
Abraham Bundy’s children included Cliven Bundy’s paternal grandfather, Roy Bundy, who was born in Nebraska. Two of Roy Bundy’s children were born in Nevada around World War I but Roy Bundy and his family returned to Mt. Trumbull and lived there for many years.

1940 Arizona Census - showing Bundy family members
One of Roy Bundy’s sons was David A. Bundy, Cliven Bundy’s father. David Bundy, who was born in Arizona, lived in Mt. Trumbull until at least 1940, according to Census records.

Do you spend a lot of time finding opinion pieces that completely miss the mark?

Bundy stated others including his maternal grandparents settled the area originally.

The bullshit opinion piece goes off on a paternal tirade.

Is the writer that stupid and are you that gullible?

Obviously. Google a few words of the text and check out the source.

It's unused land covered with grass. Cattle eat grass whether they are wild or owned. What are they harming? Why does FedGov "own" 84% of Nevada anyway?

This stupid redneck's argument could open up a whole can of worms, one that idiots like Vexxed etc aren't capable of grasping. There are Indians whose ancestors lived in that area for centuries, does that give them the right to just plop down on land they do not own and do whatever they want? Of course not. But for some reason the rightards believe that donning a cowboy hat and hanging around with militia dirtbags gives one the right to break the law. Heck, even Mexicans can claim that land in the Mojave is rightfully theirs because their ancestors lived there.

You seem to think the US is like a kingdom where the president (king) and his lords and court rule over us. Read the constitution. The federal government owns nothing. It is a caretaker of things for the citizens of this country. Nothing more, nothing less. Using your twisted logic, the federal government has claim to any private property (other than perhaps property that was private before the government was established around 1790).

You = part of problem.

Then the gov't could do the same to Alaska or the Louisiana Purchase? Again, what are the cattle harming if the land is not used otherwise? Unless, perhaps, a corrupt politician wants the land for something else?

Uhhhh, if it weren't for the actions of the federal government, huge parts of this country would still belong to Mexico and France. Make whatever dumb observations you want about kings and constitutions, you can't ignore the fact that the federal government beat the piss out of Mexico in the 1840s and took a big chunk of their territory. What were they supposed to do, just abandon it and let the guy with the most money and guns take possession of it? If anyone's rights got screwed in the whole deal it was the native populations who had truly lived on that land for a thousand years. So stop whining you wannabe militia jagoffs.

Well seeing how it's perfectly constitutional for the govt use eminent domai to take property that has a legitimate owner, I guess your argument fails.

And this isn't even an eminent domain issue. This stupid redneck never held title to that property. He doesn't own it, and these supposed ancestors of his never owned it either. It was wilderness inhabited by indians, then Spain claimed it, then Mexico took over, and then the US took it from them during a war. This slack-jawed cattle farmer has no enforceable claim to it. He just has guns and a bunch of dumbass loudmouths in the background.

As a taxpayer, I believe that federal (public) lands should not be used for commercial purposes without the user paying a fee. That's the American Way.

This matter went to court, was reviewed by a judge and was ruled upon. Then the federal government was attempting to enforce a ruling of the court. Not only was he in violation of the law. He was in violation of a court order reasserting the law he was breaking.

What do Republicans have against laws? For Fox News to think such reporting and glorifying of a law breakers attempting to cause an armed conflict is effective. What does that say about Republicans in general?

Why are you arguing with yourself about eminent domain?

The executive branch doesn't get to seize land. They have to use the legal sysem to do that BTW.

Your irrational hate = partisan nut = part of the problem.

If Republicans don't believe the Federal Gov't should be charging grazing rights fee's then they should change the law.

Where's the Republican legislation to change the law? There is none, why aren't your Republican leaders acting?

Because it's stupid and ridiculous and this guy is a deadbeat.

The govt has encouraged people to stake mining claims on federal land for over century, in return for royalties. Now all of a sudden a black guy is in office and it's a precursor of impending fascism. And it's unconstitutional, well, because they're angry white guys with guns.

New 35 year old head of BLM is former senior aide for Harry Reid.

Harry Reid's son is a lobbyist for EEN Energy Group, a Chinese company that has options to build solar panel farms on the land right next to where Bundy's cattle are grazing.

Harry Reid is one of the most corrupt politicians in the country and has called law abiding citizens protesting the government "terrorists" while embracing illegal immigrates and the OWS crowd.

But yeah, it's really all about racism. Moron.

Not sure how you define "right next to", but that solar project is somewhere down near Laughlin, probably like a 3-4 hour drive from that grazing land.

That's like saying something happening in Raleigh, NC is "right next to" Fairfax county.

They didn't want the land Bundy has been using for solar power panels.
What they wanted to do was use other areas and the land would become
a turtle sanctuary because they're not compatible with solar panels.
Kind of like a (turtle) shell game

They don't even want free stuff. They want to pretend the government is being tyrannical when its enforcing the law and a judges order against a freeloading deadbeat rancher.

They're willing to proclaim that it is an issue that is so important armed conflict and the use of militias is necessary to check federal overreach.

But at the same time they don't organize or petition their leaders to change federal law so it stops charging for grazing on federal property.

It makes no sense. They're willing to fire a gun but not use the stroke of a pen.

BLM removed the following from their website when this whole siege started. Bundy's cattle graze in an area that the federal government has set aside for solar power development and EEN is one of the companies that has option to build in the Dry Lake solar zone, which is where Bundy's cattle are.

I'm not defending Bundy, but you fools who think this is only about some guy who owes uncollected grazing fees are naive sheeple.

They're just lookin for a fight. Most of those idiots could care less about cattle grazing. They just wanna show off their guns and act like John Wayne. This is the way a conservative mind functions.

He has the ability to appeal the decision against him if he wishes. Non of this bullshit holds water.

Here is a nice solution to the problem. Old Fart pays his fees, U.S. refrains from blowing a hole in Old Fart.

Win/Win.

What a complete peckerhead this guy is.

Look at this idiot, another right wing idiot pretending he's an independent wants to tell me Fox News trumping up a deadbeat law breaker is somehow a left wing conspiracy.

Sounds like that dumb ass Rockhound. Doesn't know if he's comin or going.

The facts are very simple here. If Republicans think federal law is unjust. That's what they're in Washington for. They should propose legislation that gets rid of grazing fee's.

They don't, why don't they? Because grazing fee's are basic and standard payments for land usage. There's no there there. This man was a lawbreaker and the federal government is well within its rights.

If you believe otherwise please petition your elected representative to change the law and if you don't, please do not promote lawlessness in this country.

And this is not a joking matter either. Fox News systematically caused an armed resistance to the federal government enforcing the law. There could have been a massacre out there because of this news organization.

Is Fox News trying to cause militancy? How desperate have those corporate mouth piece blow hard reckless dipshit assholes become?
