Bye Bye Affirmative Action?... Supreme Courts OK's Affirmative Action BAN by Voters

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/04/22/supreme-court-affirmative-action-michigan/4481923/

AS I read this, state voters can decide on whether to ban the practice within their states, ie go against the internal policies of colleges and their progturd faculty.

Not sure if this effects private schools who do not take any state money or resources, IMO they should be as racist and self-destructive as they want as long as they pull their own weight..

Not sure if some of the far left states in America will ever have voter referendums to ban also, but its a start.

I'm sure it's another 5-4 SCOTUS decision and the usual suspects will be whining today.

NO school for YOU Barry, you don't have the grades ! LOFL!

6-2 decision...

Sotomayer is one of the dissenters, I'm guessing Ginsburg or the other ugly fat lady whose name I can't recall is the other.

6-2 decision....

Kagan, the fat one who looks like Meade, recused herself from the case because she had worked for it while at DOJ.

Ginsburg, a leftist piece of trash, was the other dissenter.

Great news for America. I hope every other state follows suite.
Why couldn't they get it right for Obamacare?

I am okay with some form affirmative action as long as it has some sort of reasonable goal/timeline for when it is no longer needed. The thought of these types of programs going on indefinitely is unreasonable madness.

As well they should.

Whether cultural diversity is a goal which we should strive for is a POLICY DECISION and not a Constitutional dictate. It should be up to the voters, either acting directly or through their elected representatives, to decide whether cultural diversity or any other policy is a goal worth pursuing.

Surprised WingNut?

But that's the whole point. It is no longer needed. The "reasonable timeline" for it being beneficial to society has been long gone. Ironically, affirmative action now promotes racism.

That's your opinion. Affirmative action IS NOT cultural diversity. Only the people qualified should be selected, regardless of race or ethnicity. Also, this kind of thing should NEVER be a federal issue.

Affirmative action is a racist law created by liberals to get votes from the weak minded who aren't capable of competing in the real world.

No, they didn't. They deemed Obamacare as a tax. The only thing they got right about Obamacare was that is is unconstitutional to force states to expand medicaid.

I agree with you, but will further add that what affirmative action really is is a sort of manufactured diversity. It's not real! Diversity is a great thing, as long as it's organic.

As a liberal, I can say good riddance to the inherently racist policy of affirmative action. One race should not get preferential treatment over the other. Period.

Its not the courts place to be continually striking down decades old bipartisan settled law.

This court has become highly political and tyrannical.

You are not talking about choosing an unqualified person over a qualified person. You are talking about choosing among qualified people, and the criteria used to make the determination.

During the past month college acceptance letters have gone out. Walk into any Northern Virginia public high school other than TJ and you will find plenty of examples of one kid getting into one of our best Virginia state schools while another did not. They are both the same race and gender. The one with the better grades and scores was the one that was rejected. Are you seriously going to argue the one who got in was qualified and the one who didn't wasn't?

Maybe by your definition but that ignores that in fact preferences do exist and are given in many circumstances. That was kind of the whole nature of the case.

I suppose MOST qualified person would be more accurate; not qualified vs unqualified. Sometimes the most qualified person is denied a position due to affirmative action.

But schools can still use legacy as a part of the admission process?
Don't va schools limit how many TJ and nova kids they will admitt each year?

Let's do away with all these criteria
Let the best students in

Notice the ? - I could be incorrect

A state's voters are free to outlaw the use of race as a factor in college admissions

-----------------------------
you mean for gov unionized schools making money using pyramid scheems of writing loans to immigrants

not all schools are owned by gov. and private schools qualify as "a club" and do not owe to be forced to invite anyone whichever way the wind blows in the state

----------------------------
a good legal argument is if forcing denizens to give away money to illegals is the right of a state or a fed government to demand

another is whether all states should agree

why would it be a fed matter am i anti state ? no.

no why is democrats can use this for hostile takeover. to give out free shit using printed money only for democrats knowing repubilcs in their stae won't allow

causing an imploding effect in the other stae is why

the issue is money

direct taxation means taxes must be fair and not targeted for use of theft (living large) from one group to another for agenda or for any reason

ie, you not supposed to be a "forgotten and uncounted" population that pays for others to live it up, that's illegal in the usa

direct taxation means to each and every the same. rich or poor. if 1 rich guy pays so does the other the same no matter from which state his vote and tax the same. one poor, so the other poor.

it isn't a mandate on rates betweee rich and poor though, nor a mandate on how tax is RESPONSIBLY used and divied between the states

the rich states want no charity and to pay abuse the lesser states, that's why we have a Sentate

=================================

free for States to choose can't be considered a wrong direction: it's good

unless or until it would be abused

in general the ussc has left the bank doors open

the country has been intracted into a political printing war which began with democrats in control. gov workers deciding own pay, pay checks and false money racing by. ousting attacks of control of pyramidding by foreigners in our capitol using false moneys. printing wars abroad attacking here.

democrats are giving jive stories "does your butt hurt are yo mad" like any bank robber jive would after a successful robbery

-----------------------------
democrats are saying that money was always a printing war.

that's simply a lie and can be discovered as a lie. and jimmy carter was no bank robber either.

these people have pushed so far into involving USA in printing and abouse wars they not only need to be made poor they need penalty

certain gov workers and wealthy, let's call them vinichy, printed moneys beyond debt and sold their fellow denizens out to foreign interests as trash. they were suposed to be using taxes to support civility, not destroy the people.

here is a picture of the vinichy "bailout" plan, how they would dodge their debts

Sotomayer's objection was essentially "we don't want mob rule -- the people shouldn't be allowed to dictate policy".

If the people shouldn't be doing this, who should? Special interest groups and lobbyists?

Using race as a factor in college admissions is/was failing to address the real disadvantage -- economic disparity. This exists outside the confines of race. It is just easy to boil it down to white and not-white.

Um, libs hate the constitution. They want absolute government control. To the liberal government the people are nothing.

Libs hate America.

Anyone who thinks that doing away with Affirmative Action isa anything but a step backwards...just wait until whitey is a minority and more issues are left for voters to decide. Uppity is gonna it uppity the ass.

By definition, white cannot be a minority. Even if we made up 5% of the population, it would still not be considered a minority -- "For historical reasons".
