It now appears they want to delay it beyond this fall's elections. *snooze*

Shocking, I tell you. Shocking. I just can't believe that this president would delay something like this until after the election. I mean it's not like he's done it before. Oh wait.

So what if Canada builds the thing themselves employing thousands of people so they can sell their massive oil and natural gas reserves to China for top dollar.

Everyone in Fairfax is filthy rich, all drive BMWs and use their parents credit cards to fill the tank.

I've heard as many as 42,000 jobs could be created as a result of the pipeline. Not really much impact on those in Fairfax. But ... the day for Fairfax is coming. Disposable income will shrink quite a bit. Taxes will go up due to expanded Medicaid in Virginia. Income and jobs will be lost due to defense cuts. It will not be pretty.

A few BMWs will be pawned - if you want to pick one up on the cheap.

The Tea Billy bubble is impervious to fact. Trans Canada wants to build the pipeline from Fort McMurray in northern Alberta through the U.S. to the Gulf of Mexico to ship the oil to China, where it will be refined into gasoline for the Chinese. The oil is not destined for American refineries or the American market at all.

Simply put (for simple people), Trans Canada executives know that stupid Americans in red states can be more easily duped than the First Nations (what "Indians" are called in Canada) whose lands the line would have to cross, or the province of British Columbia whose wealthy environmentalists are prepared to block any attempt to put the pipeline through B.C. to the pacific ocean.

So again, the oil ain't for the U.S. and the jobs will all be short term construction.

They need to route it to avoid the aquifer. A foriegn company wants to pump tar sands oil over our heartland with less safety measures and regulated precautions than would be the case in Canada to have it refined in our refineries causing pollution to have it exported as gasoline from our ports.

Its a good source to have for national security reasons but it by no means will effect the costs of fuel in the U.S.

At the very least we must make sure we get the utmost precautionary planning and construction and maintainance of this pipeline by Transcanada.

You Republicans think everything is a joke and that we should just let corporations even foriegn corporations do as they please.

That cannot be the case here and if they build it they need to route it safely taking the enviroment into consideration and they need to build it to the same standards they would if they were building it in Canada.

Awww STFU. Yet another thing that you don't know what the hell you're talking about.

The only reason this is even an issue is because of the global warming wankers who don't want to see Canada develop its tar sands resources. Which will happen no matter how much they stomp their feet and pout.

This thing has been analyzed to death. It's no different than literally thousands of other petroleum pipelines which run all across the country. The Ogallala aquifer has crap built all over it including other major pipelines, chemical plants, military bases, fallout areas from nuclear weapons testing, military bases, mines, highways and rail lines where everything is transported, etc. etc. And if they don't build a pipeline then it will be done by rail and truck. The pipeline actually is a more desirable alternative. Assuming at least that you don't have a stick up your ass about Canadian tar sands more generally and aren't going to be happy with anything.

Should the US really let Canada build a pipeline through the US?

I say bring it on. It has nothing to do with Cruz and Canada. But, it has a lot to do with Sen. Cruz having common sense in getting some great paying jobs back into America. After all, not everyone can live off of welfare. America simply can't afford it.

Build all those pipelines.

I don't see the whiners complaining about the gas pipelines that run up through northern VA to get to Baltimore. How many decades has that pipeline been operating now? Granted, there was one mishap about 26 years ago when a backhoe digging a hole in Centreville hit one of the gas lines. But, that's a case where proper precaution was ignored.

Libs rather wage war in the middle east to get a pipeline built for Hussein Obamas Muslim brothers and have unprecedented numbers of American soldiers murdered by Obama rather than have a pipeline built here in America which will provide jobs, help the economy and strengthen relations with neighboring nations.

They also want a "clean environment for Mother Earth" but don't give one shit about the environment in the other countries that will build oil pipelines and refineries. Libs are so full of shit.

We need to forget about the pipeline and start forcing people to drive high mileage and alternative fueled vehicles. We need huge tax penalties for asswipes who drive low milage vehicles or heat their homes with gas or oil.

We should start with tv network bigwig types that fly in private jets and get driven around in big heavy limos and sell their networks to big oil money (al Jazera). Then we should focus our attention on poor people that can't afford to upgrade their heating systems, but only because libs hate poor people (except when libs want their votes).

Liberals, please seek treatment for your mental health issue. There is a cure.

I'm sure your home is 100% off the grid and you use 0 natural resources to heat your home.
Please, do tell.

Exporting finished petroleum products like gasoline across the ocean to China doesn't make sense. Gasoline is more volatile. You would likely wind up refining it again. While you ship more product I am sure China has uses for the other products from refining petroleum would prefer raw crude.

I am fine with the Keystone XL pipeline but it doesn't make sense to process tar sands when we have plenty of conventional petroleum sources we don't currently tap. Ones that don't require the extra energy to extract the oil from the tar sends.
