Unlike Nixon, Trump will not go quietly...

By Patrick J. Buchanan

WASHINGTON – On Aug. 9, 1974, Richard Nixon bowed to the inevitability of impeachment and conviction by a Democratic Senate and resigned.

The prospect of such an end for Donald Trump has this city drooling. Yet, comparing Russiagate and Watergate, history is not likely to repeat itself.

First, the underlying crime in Watergate, a break-in to wiretap offices of the DNC, had been traced, within 48 hours, to the Committee to Re-Elect the President.

In Russiagate, the underlying crime – the “collusion” of Trump’s campaign with the Kremlin to hack into the emails of the DNC – has, after 18 months of investigating, still not been established.

Campaign manager Paul Manafort has been indicted, but for financial crimes committed long before he enlisted with Trump.

Gen. Michael Flynn has pleaded guilty to lying about phone calls he made to Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak, but only after Trump had been elected and Flynn had been named national security adviser.

Flynn asked Kislyak for help in blocking or postponing a Security Council resolution denouncing Israel, and to tell Vladimir Putin not to go ballistic over President Obama’s expulsion of 35 Russian diplomats.

This is what security advisers do.

Why Flynn let himself be ensnared in a perjury trap, when he had to know his calls were recorded, is puzzling.

Second, it is said Trump obstructed justice when he fired FBI Director James Comey for refusing to cut slack for Flynn.

But even Comey admits Trump acted within his authority.

And Comey had usurped the authority of Justice Department prosecutors when he announced in July 2016 that Hillary Clinton ought not to be prosecuted for having been “extremely careless” in transmitting security secrets over her private email server.

We now know that the first draft of Comey’s statement described Clinton as “grossly negligent,” the precise statute language for an indictment.

We also now know that helping to edit Comey’s first draft to soften its impact was Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe. His wife, Jill McCabe, a candidate for state senate in Virginia, received $467,000 in campaign contributions from the PAC of Clinton bundler Terry McAuliffe.

Comey has also admitted he leaked to the New York Times details of a one-on-one with Trump to trigger the naming of a special counsel – to go after Trump. And that assignment somehow fell to Comey’s predecessor, friend and confidant Robert Mueller.

Mueller swiftly hired half a dozen prosecutorial bulldogs who had been Clinton contributors and Andrew Weinstein, a Trump hater who had congratulated Acting Attorney General Sally Yates for refusing to carry out Trump’s travel ban.

FBI official Peter Strzok had to be been removed from the Mueller probe for hatred of Trump manifest in texts to his FBI lady friend.

Strzok was also involved in the investigation of Clinton’s email server and is said to have been the one who persuaded Comey to tone down his language about her misconduct, and let Hillary walk.

In Mueller’s tenure, still no Trump tie to the hacking of the DNC has been found. But a connection between Hillary’s campaign and Russian spies – to find dirt to smear and destroy Trump and his campaign – has been fairly well-established.

By June 2016, the Clinton campaign and DNC had begun shoveling millions of dollars to the Perkins Coie law firm, which had hired the oppo research firm Fusion GPS to go dirt-diving on Trump.

Fusion contacted ex-British MI6 spy Christopher Steele, who had ties to former KGB and FSB intelligence agents in Russia. They began to feed Steele, who fed Fusion, which fed the U.S. anti-Trump media with the alleged dirty deeds of Trump in Moscow hotels.

While the truth of the dirty dossier has never been established, Comey’s FBI rose like a hungry trout on learning of its contents.

There are credible allegations Comey’s FBI sought to hire Steele and used the dirt in his dossier to broaden the investigation of Trump – and that its contents were also used to justify FISA warrants on Trump and his people.

This week, we learned that the Justice Department’s Bruce Ohr had contacts with Fusion during the campaign, while his wife actually worked at Fusion investigating Trump. This thing is starting to stink.

Is the Trump investigation the rotten fruit of a poisoned tree?

Is Mueller’s Dump Trump team investigating the wrong campaign?

There are other reasons to believe Trump may survive the deep state-media conspiracy to break his presidency, overturn his mandate and reinstate a discredited establishment.

Trump has Fox News and fighting congressmen behind him, and the mainstream media are deeply distrusted and widely detested. And there is no Democratic House to impeach him or Democratic Senate to convict him.

Moreover, Trump is not Nixon, who, like Charles I, accepted his fate and let the executioner’s sword fall with dignity.

If Trump goes, one imagines, he will not go quietly.

In the words of the great Jerry Lee Lewis, there’s gonna be a “whole lotta shakin’ goin’ on.”

In the 70s Americans expected honesty and decency, and so Nixon resigned . That expectation is long gone, quite the contrary now. The American people now know politicians are corrupt, and tolerate it. If the Nixon standard were in place, the last 4 presidents would have resigned, just before being run out of town on a rail. The problem is us; we excuse the unexcusable. We are being played by the players, and now we think its normal and that we can't do anything about it. That's wrong, but effectively true if we won't exercise our power. But its hard to do if people ignorantly support " party " over their own common fucking sense.

And if you are a D or R agreeing with this sentiment, think again.

Unlike 1974, when the WaPo took Nixon down, there is a GOP media structure to counter the one-voice MSM. The power of FoxNews, Rush Limbaugh (and the rest of the right-wing talk radio), Drudge (and the rest of right-leaning web sites) will provide an alternative voice for Trump that Nixon never had.

54% of Americans now think Mueller's investigation is not being done fairly. That is directly attributable to conservative media outlets. That number will be over 10 points higher by Christmas now that all those documents have come out regarding Comey and the FBI agent's messages.

The World Daily News is SATIRE

If you wish to believe that Apple Annouces[sic] Release of Paranormal Communication Application or that a New Gandhi Movie Shocks India, then World News Daily Report is the site for you.

But kindly leave our boots well and dry, thank you very much.

World News Daily Report follows the old-school Tabloid-styled faux-journalism of its predecessors, such as the Weekly World News. They rely on the sheer audacity of the topics covered to be its built-in disclaimer, but because so many just don’t get it, they do also have a Disclaimer Page that states:

“All characters appearing in the articles in this website – even those based on real people – are entirely fictional and any resemblance between them and any persons, living, dead, or undead is purely a miracle.”

good point with FOX and RUSh and Hannity Nixon would never have resigned. Of course we know, thanks to his recorded voice, Nixon broke the law many many times and was constantly lying about it. We have Nixon on tape lying to Johnson about sabotaging the Vietnam peace talks so he would be elected - that lead to the extension of the war by 8 years and 10's of 1,000's of American Deaths and 100's of 1,000's of deaths of men women and children in Vietnam.

Good thing we have FOX news to help counter the evil MSM that exposed Nixon.

The goober talking heads would only have been able to stave off Nixon's ouster for so long. The GOP is not just a political party, it's a brand, and if that brand is being tarnished, those within will give them the boot. Trump is no different, and pretty soon it will become clear to the GOP elite that he has to be jettisoned to preserve the brand.

We don't have Nixon on tape lying to Johnson about anything. Nixon's tapes were once he was in the White House. We have a note from one of Nixon's aides (Halderman) that they talked about wanted to get credit for any deal. The Paris Peace Accords were signed in 1973, 5 years later (not 8). US deaths in VN after 1968, when Johnson left office, was a total of around 19,000 so thousands would be appropriate, but not 10's of 1,000's. And since any peace deal reached in 1968 would not have immediately ceased US military deaths in VN, the true number would be even less.

Nixon was corrupt (so was Johnson btw).
Carter was ineffective and in over his head.
Reagan was too hands off and let the MIC run the country.
Bush 1 was a globalist.
Clinton was a pervert but otherwise not too bad.
Bush 2 sucked (Iraqi War anyone?)
Obama sucked (gunrunning and weaponizing IRS and FBI anyone?)
Trump is way too much of a lose cannon - he needs to reign it in.

Nixon sank the Vietnam peace talks while he was a candidate and he’s on tape lying to Johnson saying he had nothing to do with it. History tells us otherwise.

Johnson taped the conversation with Nixon denying interference with the peace talks. You can hear it in the Burns Vietnam War documentary "In the documentary, Nixon is heard denying the plot in a tape-recorded phone conversation with then-President Johnson." At the time Johnson knew Nixon was lying because he had taped Nixons aides scuttling the peace talks - see 'Chennault Affair '

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-09-25/it-s-not-just-comey-nixon-s-october-surprise-details-revealed

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/02/us/politics/nixon-tried-to-spoil-johnsons-vietnam-peace-talks-in-68-notes-show.html

As to the number of thousands of Americans that died because Nixon sabotaged the peace talks its tens of thousands. Perhaps in the low 20,000's His interference started in 1968 so I personally include part of the KIA tally in that year to Nixon. I guess the fact you acknowedge 19k means you have some sense of the level of treachery Nixon engaged in. That is positive. Also you can multiply that number by the number of moms dads sisters brothers and wives devastated by the loss of their loved ones so that Tricky Dick could hold office.

"Richard Nixon in 1968 had a “secret plan” to end the Vietnam War but 31,000 American dead when he was elected grew to 58,000 by the Paris Peace Accords. Nixon lost almost as many Americans in four years getting the U.S. out of Vietnam as Truman, Eisenhower, JFK, and LBJ lost in 23 years getting the U.S. into Vietnam. That Nixon almost doubled the American dead is largely forgotten, likewise that Vietnam started a chain of events ending in Watergate is largely unknown." https://www.counterpunch.org/2017/02/22/nixon-and-the-chennault-affair-from-vietnam-to-watergate/

Pat Buchanan - same guy that admitted attempts to cover up Watergate by urging Nixon to burn the infamous White House tapes, and worst of all, his role in using the IRS against political enemies.

That Pat Buchanan?

Secret plan my ass. I said from the beginning it would never work because the ARVN's didn't give a flying fuck. They wouldn't post sentry's or guard their own positions, especially at night. Brilliant eh? My unit was part of the Vietnamization program and we were ordered NOT to report anything negative about the ARVN's which burned my ass. Our own officers lied all the way up the chain about their performance and the brass at the Pentagon was fully aware but didn't do anything out of fear for their own careers. Now we have total assholes like the Clinton's and Obama lying to the public in order to feather their own nest.
Some things never change and now we have career staff at the FBI bucking for another promotion by sucking ass and ignoring the law.

This is a pic of what happened when the ARVN's realized they were going to have to fight themselves so they threw down their rifles, stripped off their uniforms and trampled each other getting away from the NVA.

^ sorry about you being fucked over in Nam - that sucks. That whole war sucked. It was Johnson and Nixon lying to you and the rest of us. Direct lies. We have the on tape admitting it.

Not sure what Obama and Clinton have to do with Nixon's plans but you seem to dislike them no big deal in my book. Current FBI - looks like you think they are corrupt too. That suggests to me you are buying the Trump pitch. I wont defend the FBI but I doubt their hatred of Trump is political - I think he refuses to accept their findings on the Russian attack on the US and that has ALL our spooks and State department very very worried. You can bet your ass the intel community will do everything in their power to correct Trump's denial of the attacks on the US and his support of Putin.

You can thank the main stream media for revealing how totally fucked over you were in Nam. I know thats a bitter pill because for soldiers fighting for the US the press often took a giant shit on those brave men and women - associating war crimes committed by some US soldiers with ALL US soldiers. Seems wrong to risk your life and give up your mental health to an ungrateful country. But the war was wrong and civilians were mad and doing whatever they could to end it.

Thanks for your service, sorry the US let you down, sorry we didnt hang Nixon McNamara and Kissinger for what they did to you.

Still can't accept reality I see. Sad!

Clinton wasn't bad. Obama was as bad as Johnson and Nixon. To be fair, Obama was more like Reagan, except for the libs vs. the cons. Didn't really have a handle on what was going on, focusing on protecting favored parts of the government machine and letting his liberal apparatchiks run the government. They, like Reagan's apparatchiks on the right, fucked over everybody and everything to protect their own self interests.

The evidence of FBI and DOJ corruption is overwhelming. There are text messages, emails, meeting minutes, and other documents that are connecting all these dots. That you are either too blind to see it or too morally corrupt to admit it isn't clear. But what is clear is that you're too partisan to have a rational view of what's going on in the world.

Honestly you are having this conversation with yourself I made no comments on Obama or Clinton. I said I dont know what Obama and Clinton had to do with Nixons plans in Vietnam thats all. I think Obama was not even a teen when nixon was elected. You can continue the conversation with yourself but I really am not interested in trying to understand your demons or your strange declarations.

I do know the depart of Justice released texts between two FBI employees who were having and extramarital affair at the time. It was unusual the Dept of Justice released these to Congress and the press at the same time. The texts are people saying what more than half the country was saying at the time. The FBI found this out on their own and the employees were reassigned. All the leadership at the FBI then and now was initially Republican appointed.

I get it, everyone is out to get Trump its all Comet Pizza kiddie porn rings and Clinton Deep State. Sure, why not. Trump is just a simple homebuilder from the bronx being attacked by the Swamp. Poor Trump. Poor you. Poor White Christians. The only people life is more unfair too are the ultra wealthy - they are the real victims.

I can explain exactly none of this insanity to my kids...

I was responding to your post, which mentioned Clinton and Obama. So I'm having this conversation with you.

I'm sure you believe that the IRS wasn't going after political opponents of the president or that Lynch really just was talking to Bill about the grandkids too.

Perhaps you can explain to your kids that your a blind partisan fool and that whatever you have to say to them should be considered through that fact. Might do them a world of good to know the old man is only giving them one side of the story.

OP, you are correct. After his 8 years of correct the BS polices which have been destroying the US, he will have a Huge party to Celebrate his success in MAGA.

It will not be a quiet get together but a big celebration.
That's how he will go out.

You probably hear this often but, I dont know what you are talking about. The only mention I made of Obama/Clinton was "Not sure what Obama and Clinton have to do with Nixon's plans but you seem to dislike them no big deal in my book. - it was in response to someone, I think your post. Didnt say they were good or bad.

Also I never mentioned the IRS. Nor Attorney General Lynch. We are having different conversations.

Be angry, in fact, get and stay angry at me personally - I dont really care. I hope you have wonderful visions of the Clintons, Lynch, the IRS and Obama dancing in the empty ballroom that is your brain all Christmas season. Ill be there too like the bartender in the Shining, a bit character in your own personal decent into a craven madness

Bad news for ya sparky. It's working. 54% in a new poll now say Mueller has a conflict of interest in the Trump investigation. And that poll was conducted before the latest bombs dropped about Ohr's wife working for Fusion GPS and Strzok’s text messages to the agent he was cheating on his wife with. Sad!

You thought wrong (not the first time you've been told that I'm sure). It wasn't my post you were responding to. I was responding to your post, which mentioned Clinton and Obama (and Johnson and Nixon).

The amount of time you put into typing your lame, condescending clap tells us all that you're waaaaaaay to invested into trying to prove to strangers on the Internet that you should be listened to. It isn't working.

Id be amazed if he wasnt but I was amazed he won. I think the tinfoilhatters are right about the spooks wanting Trump out. About 2/3rd of the country want him out but I think with the Intel agencies its mostly patriotic - they know its them or him. Trump will try to use populism to destroy our Intelligence Agencies to save his ass.

I do not think anyone thinks Trump is a truthful person - including and especially his followers. This is all about destroying the Government of the USA to save 'America' - its a proxy civil war. funny thing is all Trump cares about is money. He wasnt a Republican till last year. He is laughing.

In other words, you love the deep state. Figures. You lap up the golden showers lies but refuse to accept that the deep state was working to defeat one candidate and help another. That's banana republic shit but you'll accept it if it's your party that it helps. You are one pathetic American. It's one thing to lose and fight to win next time. It's another to accept corruption with and throughout the government and media to overturn an election.

again, 2 different conversations - I only mentioned Clinton and Obama as cited in the quotes and italics above. Why not quote what ever it is you are responding to - it wasnt me. Why not provide the quote you are replying to so someone, anyone can understand whatever it is you are trying so hard to communicate?

It's already consumed three FBI agents on the Mueller probe and ruined two families (spouses and kids) who had their parent's affair dragged through the media. Comey's reputation is in tatters. He's now viewed as a partisan actor who worked to protect one candidate by half the country and hated for 'costing Hillary the election' by the other half. Mueller is now views as having a conflict of interest by more than half the voters. It's like the only winner in all this is going to be Trump. And Putin, who is behind most of this and loves watching the US eat itself.
